My truck was originally an RA1. I got the heading on the nav icon when I put in my RA4 and then I got it in my 7" cluster. I don't have and have never had a compass module.

I think this is more evidence that the info from the compass takes precedence. It's almost like R.L.K.'s truck thinks it supposed to have an external compass, but doesn't know it should put the heading on the top of the radio and the cluster. Those are from seperatr settings in the BCM, so maybe he has a weird combo of sales codes.
The Dealer told me CUN (O/H Console) & JFJ Were not available for my Vin .

The Sales code for the compass / homelink CV2 was avail , and I was told was installed .
Oddly, I was also told the RA4 Code was available for my VIN ?? And I was told RA4 was added .... wonder if having the CV2 & RA4 together is the issue ?

Question , do RA4 Original Trucks even have compass modules ?
I know some RA2 original trucks with a working compass and had no O/H console , so I wonder where the compass module was located or did they even have a module ? Maybe they use GPS from the SXM puck antenna?

I'm not sure. I've never seen an RA2 truck without a console. I do know that when I went from an RA1 to an RA2 I didn't have the compass working.

Just unplugged my compass module. Cycled the key, and the compass heading is displaying almost immediately.
Off to work, I will see how reliable it is over the next few days.
Edit: (Stayed on the entire drive)

Ha ! I was thinking that might work !

So with the compass module disconnected your heading must be coming via the SXM / GPS puck style antenna .

Question.
Did the heading display in the cluster , Radio ( up top ) and in the Nav icon ?

Guess I should wait to send you a module huh

This morning after work...
- No compass heading again (so still flakey).

- Stopped for a biscuit and power cycled the key while waiting in the parking lot ...
Compass heading came right up immediately.

@RLk, when it works, it does display in the cluster as well as both spots on the RA4, when it doesn't work, just 2 dashes at all 3 spots.

So yeah, send the compass module, it's worth a shot.

I had my battery disconnected while I swapped out my steering wheel and clockspring earlier. When I started the truck after reconnecting the battery, I had no heading. I shut it off and when I started it again about 10 minutes later, it was working again. So weird.

This is exactly what I am noticing on my truck with the compass module disconnected. Doesn't work after starting up/driving around. Power Cycle the key and it comes up, next drive it's off again.
Still Works more often than with the module plugged in.

I recall Tach_Tech (Forum member & FCA Tech) mentioned that some trucks have configuration issues and need the config reloaded a time or two to fix this issue. I just never got that far with my dealership before moving.

No problem friend , I'll try to get it out tomorrow , Saturday for sure !

Gotta go back to WV. on Monday to Remove a Turbine Engine and Rotor head , so I'll likely be out of cell service for a couple days
Man I was realy hoping just disconnecting the module would open up a single circuit for heading ( not competing )
Well your efforts has proven with no module , no shark fin antenna and just the sxm /GPS puck antenna will display a heading in all three locations !

Just a small update ...
power cycling the ignition when the heading info is missing consistently brings back the heading/compass direction (w/o compass module connected).

Note sure what I will do if I ever get a HomeLink/compass module that needs to stay plugged in.
Edit: May not do it ... Homelink not working in heat

I think the Homelink problem is pretty uncommon. I haven't really heard of to many of them having any issues. I have had mine for around a year and a half and it works fine. It has much more range than my regular garage door opener. On another note it's very interesting that you can get the heading to come up with the module unplugged.

LOL , the wife would never let me take her new car on those back roads ! Lots of gravel and dirt roads to get to the Coal mines ! I'll be in the Co. Truck , a 14 cheby 2500 HD 4x4 with a trailer full of ground support equipment.

I did get the compass module out today , I believe you should have it NLT Tuesday .
Hope it helps !

I will be monitoring that thread to see if there are any more people chiming in. If I can get the compass heading to work regularly with the compass module, I will be more likely to go for the Homelink setup. Otherwise I will have to decide if I want Homelink or the compass heading to work.

@RLK,
Received your compass module yesterday and installed it this morning. Will update once I can establish how well or not it works in my truck.

PS: Not that it matters as far as getting a readout/direction, but you had the orientation arrow facing the wrong way on the tape/sticker.

Thanks again.

So I tried going to the dealer to add codes for overhead console compass and a few other things. Basically told me none of them except for like 2 were options.

On top of that wanted to charge me 130 for an hour of labor to reprogram the bcm *****. I looked at him said "oh it's like that" and walked away.

I emailed customer support to see if I can get anywhere with them, probably won't they told me I need to go to a dealer. I know someone over there can make them available for my truck considering expresses come with all those options. Butttt I'll probably be SOL

KG,
I have read somewhere on here that some options were available for 2013 express trucks that were not available for 2014+ trucks. Not sure which ones though but compass module shouldn't be an issue.

Hopefully there is a different dealer with in a reasonable drive to try out.

I was assuming all these options would be available for a 2014

I wanted the following, all in the hopes to get a overhead console with a compass working and showing up on my premium dash.

RA2P
RFUP
AV2
CUNS
JA6P
JFJS
R02P

Customer service emailed me back basically saying im SOL unless a dealer does it. One thing i hate about ram/dodge/Chrysler...act like there computer systems are for nuclear weapons

You likely just need to find a different dealer service dept to do it.

PM R.L.K.
He also has a 2014 express and had had some codes added via his cooperative dealer in TN. He may be able to confirm some of this with you.

There are definitely Express trucks with RA2 and overhead compass console, just can't recall if they were 2014 or 2015 trucks. There is a note/link to them in RLK's compass module thread.

Edit: DOH! Didn't realize what thread I was in/replying to (vs. timeline view).

Here are some related posts in case you missed them...

I know some RA2 original trucks with a working compass and had no O/H console , so I wonder where the compass module was located or did they even have a module ? Maybe they use GPS from the SXM puck antenna?

PS: I find it very odd that Ron was told the code wasn't available for his truck as well. Didn't he have working temp before? That would seem to require the JFJ code also unless there is a separate temp only code.

My truck is a 14 Express and the compass/temp and time all show on my radio as well as my speedometer. Granted my truck came with the RA2 from the factory but I don't understand why they say the codes aren't available because it's an Express. My truck is an Express and I have it.

Even though your truck came with the RA1 it seems strange that the CV2 code is there for the overhead console your truck didn't come with but no compass code. I know guys have tryed and I have heard others say the code isn't there but it seems strange. When we upgraded my friends truck from the RA1 to the RA2 we did get the compass to work on the RA2 when the compass button was pushed but it never came up in the speedometer. He never switched his radio code to the RA2 so I wasn't sure if that was why it didn't work. I thought he added the CUN code as well but I might be mistaken we were kind of sneaking on his day off and we're rushed.

I was assuming all these options would be available for a 2014

EDIT: here is the thread for a 2014 and 2015 Express trucks with RA2's and no overhead console
(where compass module is normally installed), yet one has a working compass, the other does not. We never got an update from Presten14 about it.
