Consumer Reports has just released their predicted reliability study results for 22 MY trucks. The publication provides a five-tier predicted reliability scoring system, with 1 out of 5 indicating poor reliability and 5 out 5 indicating excellent reliability.
  • 2022 Chevy Silverado 2500HD: 4/5
  • 2022 GMC Sierra 2500HD: 4/5
  • 2022 Ram 1500: 3/5
  • 2022 Ram 2500: 3/5
  • 2022 Ram 3500: 3/5
  • 2022 Ford F-250: 3/5
  • 2022 Chevy Silverado 3500HD: 3/5
  • 2022 GMC Sierra 3500HD: 3/5
  • 2022 Toyota Tundra: 3/5
  • 2022 Ford F-150: 2/5
  • 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning: 2/5
  • 2022 Ford F-350: 2/5
  • 2022 Nissan Titan: 2/5
  • 2022 GMC Hummer EV Pickup: 2/5
  • 2022 Nissan Titan XD: 2/5
  • 2022 Rivian R1T: 2/5
  • 2022 Tesla Cybertruck: 2/5
  • 2022 GMC Sierra 1500: 1/5
  • 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500: 1/5
  • 2022 Ram 1500 Classic: 1/5
Sadly, the 22 Ram 1500 Classic earns their lowest vote of confidence. Interestingly no trucks for 22 earn a 5/5 rating, perhaps due to concerns with BAU disruptions with the parts and labor shortages causing shortcuts.

I own Ram 2500s becasue I need them to do a job. If Toyota made a 2500 CC longbed with a big gas motor I would own the Toyota. I have owned lots of Toyota pickups, Landcrusisers, and cars and lots of Chev, Ram, Ford. Anyone that rates the Tundra as the same reliability as my Rams has a serious data problem.

Consumer Reports has always been biased. I remeber when I had my 2006 Nissan Armada, they ranked it as one of the least reliable vehicles and I NEVER had a problem nor have heard of anyone having any problems with them. As a matter of fact, I see more Armadas of that year out there then I see any other comparable SUV. F..k Consumer Reports

You need to remember the title: "Predicted Reliability". Predicted? Just another marketing gimmick to sell more issues or subscriptions.
Let me know when there's an issue that evaluates all of their past predictions....

I was never a fan of them.

That particular year would have been affected by the radiators that were prone to failing and allowing the engine coolant and transmission fluid to mix, which was catastrophic and very expensive to fix. If you had that happen to yours, you would have a very different opinion of your ownership experience. Much like Dodge, Nissan had some undesirable ownership changes that resulted in a nose dive for reliability that has nearly destroyed the brand.

Much like the Nissan/Renault issues, we now have Fiat, Peugeot, Citroen, Alfa Romeo, etc. pulling the strings now. The CR prediction seems extremely obvious, and to give the intentionally cheapened/stripped down Ram 1500 the lowest score is about as risky as predicting that the Detroit Lions won't make the Super Bowl this year.

They rely on surveys and let's face it, someone could rate the ram reliability as low if they have a pet peeve about cup holders and just want to get back at Dodge. Active forums like this one are far better for information gathering than surveys.

Surveys benefit companies and services, not consumers. This must be why CR doesn't have forums on their site...can you imagine if they did?

And regarding their mission of being agnostic, one look at their web site and you can see that they have 'CR Deals', hand picked by their 'experts' on 'Top rated' products, so yes, I would say that is a conflict of interest.

Full disclosure, I used CR some 5 years ago to help me in my purchasing decision for new refrigerator, washer/dryer, microwave, stove, vacuum, mattress and pots/pans. The refrigerator, washer, microwave, mattress and a couple of pots all had issues and these were the top rated and in some cases expensive and needed replacing. I should have cross reviewed the items using Best Buy, Amazon, Home Depot and for those verified accounts, invariably the items I choose were not highly regarded. That's on me.

CR was useful back in the day when newspapers and magazines were the only sources of info or if you don't want to bother culling thru Amazon/Big Box reviews.

By the way, the items I replaced were all low rated on CR or not reviewed and they've been great.
