Found a small coolant leak yesterday. 2004 Ram 1500 5.7 with 85,0000. Picture shows the leaking spot. Not sure what the part is between the hoses. Is it just a piece of tube with 2 clamps? Could I just remove factory clamps and put "normal hose clamps there? Hoses go from water pump to heater core.
Thanks.aa2973a8a067f5b5880daf4e12b908f7.jpg

Looks like there’s a short plastic sleeve inside the tubing right there in between the clamps, that could be cracked as well

You can replace them with generic hose clamps that screw tight

There is a sleeve, not sure what it is made of, wondering about what it is made of it is 16 year old plastic, I would worry about breaking it.

I would replace the coupling(plastic pc. connecting two hoses).replace the clamps with worm gear style and if you have enough slack in the hoses i would cut a little off each end so you have better ends to put the clamps on or maybe just replace the heater hoses as well.

Any idea the name of that part to ask for at a dealer. I didn't see anything on rockauto website that looked like that part.

That is factory, sleeve is only available with the front hose section which is both front hoses.
What year is your truck with a 1 piece hose?faa8eb7e723daa085a95143e5961cb0c.jpg

So I figured out I can use a 5/8" barbs hose coupler(I think and hope).
Would you use a brass one from Home Depot or this made in USA billet aluminum one from amazon?

Id just get some heater hose and run the entire length. Get rid of the splice.
Its got some bends in it that I don't think a straight length of heater hose could handle.

Heater hose is flexible !
It sure is but the run of hose has 3 almost 90 degree bends in it. It doesn't do 90s very well

These "clamps" are probably what caused the leak. The 1 piece was laying on the frame when I went to put hose clamps on. I will replace factory couplers when I get a chance, for now hopefully new clamps will fix the leak. Didn't have time to replace the couplers with brass pieces. 2 rear hose clamps seem solid, front 2 fell apart by hand, 1 on it's on.8392b6edd4a52dc947c3d2fabdaa2e54.jpg

If you need a coupling I would buy the aluminum pc.As the coolant system is aluminum and copper and aluminum react to each other by corroding.Just use plastic piece or keep it all aluminum components
