Good day all....

2014 Hemi... recently I was rear ended. Banged up the bumper and the exhaust a little, but overall not too bad. Left the scene to head home. About 30 mins later, I parked the truck at the grocery store, and it started popping and misfiring and basically sounding awful. I tried to restart it, and same thing... it would try to start but just snorting and growling. So I had it towed to the dealership nearby.

Turns out the #1 cylinder valve spring cracked. Luckily the valve did not drop. Now keep in mind, my truck had about 125K on it, and I have never had any trouble with the engine or anything for that matter.

So about $2K later, I am running great again. The dealership could not tie the valve spring cracking back to the accident. So I had to fork out the money for the repairs. Then I had to take it to the body shop for the accident damage to get repaired. I definitely missed my truck as the rental was a POS Mitsubishi Mirage....

Anyone else had this type of failure with their Hemi's? This is my third RAM and I've never had this kind of breakdown.

For a 2014 that is surprising. My memory is, the Hemi valve spring failure was in the first year 03 5.7 engines and corrected with heavier valve springs.

In my 2o1o, mine broke with about the same mileage. My solenoid that controls the MDS went out at the same time. My bill was something like $100 for parts and $1900 for labor.

Part of that cost was the 'exploratory'.... they had to find out what was wrong with it. It was hard to keep the truck running long enough for it to throw a code. They tested all of the cylinders for pressure (or something like that) Cannot remember the exact words.
They also replaced all of the spark plugs as they were all fouled due to the issue. I believe that as when it did run, it was smelling of gas something fierce! I did not mind this as changing the plugs is a PITA as we all know. But they charged $14 per plug!

I also had them clean the intake out while it was all apart. They also replaced the valve cover gaskets, and changed the oil, as there was metal in it after this happened.

I was surprised as well, and it was so coincidental after being hit. I was highly irritated! LOL

Did they just replace the broken spring or all of them as a precautionary? Sounds like they only had about $150 in parts...

Friend of mine went through this with his 05. Fixed the spring but still had trouble, turns out the rocker arm broke too.

Parts were cheap and easy to get to keep the old girl running.
