MIL's truck had a clogged DPF, so the local shop deleted it and installed a tune.
Fast forward one year, truck has a no crank problem
Local Cummins Service center replaced the TIPM; now truck cranks but will not start.
They then did a thorough diagnostic and are saying no communication with ECM.
So they want to replace ECM and re-flash it to stock.
Will it need a DPF also? Is it a problem to return these trucks to stock after a tune?

Since it is deleted, you will have to flash the tune on to the new ECM before starting the truck. If you start it with just a stock tune you will get all sorts of codes, messages and warning indicators. Best to consult with your tuning company on replacing the ECM and reinstalling the tune.

Thanks for that info. MIL lost the programmer, and the tech that did the tune/delete is long gone.. Shop has "no record" of having done the work on the truck.
Cummins says replacing the ECM may enable truck to start, or maybe not. Or might start in limp mode. Or may still be unable to communicate with ECM.
