my air intake sensor when it got put on the computer was registering -87°. I’ve changed it, but I have not seen any difference in fuel mileage, and I haven’t been back to see if that corrected the problem with temperature.
Does anybody have what would cause this type of reading?
I am in the Charleston South Carolina area. We are nowhere is near the temperature.
I think this truck is running rich because when I get down to between a half and quarter tank of gas left, I can set an a long traffic light and watch the average mile drop by almost a mile per gallon. I know on a fresh fill up. It will fluctuate quite a bit right in the first hundred miles or so but this is after about 200 miles.

The evicc calculates milege based on alot of factors, and one of them is when the trucks moving,so when you're sitting at a light with the engine running, but the trucks basically stopped for a few minutes, the milege will drop, especially if you've just reset the indicator.
Did you use an OEM IAT sensor, aftermarket sensors don't play well with Chryco/Ram electronics

Look for a crushed/shorted wire, or on the connector. My experience with rtd’s is if open wire you read high temp and low readings if you have a short present.

Thank you ibike
I will check for a short.
But question out of lack of knowledge how would you check for a short? I have a voltmeter.

Wild One, I replaced it with a when I got at O’Reilly’s. It is a Standard Motor Products Inc. brand.
I’ll have to look it up to see if it’s OEM

Use the ohms setting. If you read across the sensor you’ll see a resistance change with temperature. If you read between the two wires in the harness you should not see “0” but some amount which I don’t know.
I’m just throwing a guess out there from what you have reported. If it’s reading a temperature there should only be two wires in the circuit. If there is more than two wires I’m probably way off base I’m not familiar with the part of the truck your troubleshooting. Just throwing some ideas to look at. They over complicate vehicles these days.

I'd go to your local dealer and get a OEM sensor, they aren't all that expensive.
