I've put this question in the 1st Gen forum but it probably also applies to other Generations aswell. Does anyone know what the marks on the stock oil pressure gauge actually are in PSI?
The markings are just a series of lines between 'L' and 'H'

I'd do something as simple as put a manual gauge on it, if at idle the manual gauge is at 40 I'd hook your dash gauge back up and if it was half way at idle I would say it goes from 0 to 80 lbs. A very simple guess that "I" would go by.

Not all electrical sending units are the same and will show different results, therefore any comparisons are faulty. You can run a mechanical gauge along with the electrical and that'll answer your question. Just install a "T" where the electrical sending unit is and add the mechanical.
