Thank you all for your time and answers. One other thing I was wondering; if the cv's are removed will that open up the suspension in the front more? Give more travel?
Are you planning on leaving the CV's out,if so you can also unbolt the front diff and front driveshaft and save another roughly 80lbs off the front end.My 4x4 hasn't had anything ahead of the transfer case for 10 years, and pulling everything was good for about 3/10 to 4/10's at the track. All told the CV's /front diff and front driveshaft are roughly 120 lbs, with 40 lbs of that being rotating CV weight. The old school rule of thumb is every pound of rotating weight = roughly 4 lbs of static weight,so removing 40lbs of rotating axle weight is similiar to removing roughly 160 lbs of static weight off the truck

As mentioned just removing the CV shafts on a stock suspension will not increase travel any. If doing that did increase travel that would mean that you were bottoming out the CV shafts, and in that case would probably grenade them. Now with them removed you could modify the front suspension for more travel since you are no longer limited by the CV's, but you do have to take into account the limitations of other components like tierods and balljoints.

One other thing, does anyone have recommendations for coilovers with the reservoir? I have rc lifted struts but want to upgrade to coilovers but need one for a 6 inch lift. Ive seen fox recommended but am not sure.

I didn't know you could do this. How do you not lose any gear oil from the transfer case after you pull the front driveshaft off? Is there a step by step post on this? I would like to do this.

My reconmendation is to go crawl under your truck and look, and it'll be pretty obvious why it doesn't leak. I put some black tape over the splines then covered that with a chunk of heat shrink so the splines stay in nice shape and don't get rusty.
Step by step on what? If you're referring to removing the diff /axles and driveshaft, first step is unbolt everything then remove it :Big Laugh: It's not rocket science if you look at how it goes together.
I'm sure there will be lots of video's on how to remove the CV's / the front diff and front driveshaft on You Tube if you go looking and need more instructions
