Damn Dashboards

I have a 1996 Dodge Ram 2500 V10 and yes the dast shattered you can see it in teh reflection of th windshield I pulled two large pieces out and have tehm behind the seat, is there anything that can be done ? or am I stuck combing through junk yards the rest of my days looking for one that isnt destroyed yet?

Check out Coverlay dash caps. I put one on my 2001 Ram which had a cracked dash, and it looked just like factory. They come already painted in about 10 colors, and they install over your cracked dash. These are molded plastic covers, not carpet. It cost about $200, but was worth it in my opinion. It only took about an hour to install.

The dashes from back then, were made of a plastic to should never be exposed to sunlight & then having the windshield magnifying the
Sun's UV Rays onto the dashboard, made it worse

New dashes still turn up on eBay with some regularity. That’s where I found mine, though it cost me darn near a thousand dollars. There was a problem with the plastic in the early years that went unnoticed for quite some time. The dash in my 98 didn’t start coming apart until 2009 or so. The new ones are said to be reformulated with strong UV inhibitors to prevent that from happening again. I have the part number if you need it.

Just finished replacing my dash with a custom made aluminum dash from lrb speed in Florida. Lot of work but I think it's worth it not dealing with plastic anymore. Mine was too far gone to cover with anything,was breaking in the front as well. Was able to eliminate ash tray to have double din radio.

My son has a 1996 Dodge Ram 2500 and his dash was broken/ cracked very badly as well. However, he found a company called Dashskin online and ordered a new cover cap for his. It worked perfectly and was so easy, that he was able to install by himself with the provided silicon adhesive. ( He is only 16) He installed about a year ago and its still looking great and has remained in place with no issues.

I ordered a replacement dash for my '97dodge ram 2500. It came in basic grey but is printable. Installed leaving @a 32"gap between dash and fame. This allows the frame to flex but less pressure on dash. That was 8 years ago and still looking good.

I am new here so I am not quite sure about responding. I replaced my '97 Dodge ram dash @ 8 years ago. Ordered it on line. Came unpainted but can be painted. I left @ .32" gap between dash and frame. DON'T TIGHTEN IT DOWN, the frame flexes and if you leave that tiny loose space it takes the pressure off the dash . Still looking good.
