You can just apply some pins to a 12v to 5v converter and push them into the rear view mirror connector. No need to tie into overhead console unless you need a constant 12v, not switched. No need to splice, tap, cut, drop overhead, etc... Pink & yellow on the mirror is switched 12v.

I'll be installing a Garmin Mini myself soon. Incredibly small and discreet.

I intend to install a second in the rear as well. Nice thing about app is you can actually have four so in theory you could have sides too.

    1. What brand & model do you have? - VanTrue N1 (2017 version)
    2. Did you go with front and rear cams? - Front Only
    3. What features do you like? a> Power cable connects to mount, camera gets it's power form mount, no unplugging wires to remove camera. b> There's a "Keep the current recording" button.
    4. What features do you not like? Ball joint on mount is too loose.
    5. Is it easy to upload videos from the cam to your phone or to some form of media? (USB, SD Card, etc...) Everything records to a microSD card. You can plug the camera into USB or remove the card to transfer.
    6. Lastly, is there feature you don't have that you wish came with your cam? A rear camera would be nice.

Garmin mini with a 256 gig card in it. Very high quality video, and it’s so small it’s almost completely unnoticeable. I have one in both my cars so I don’t have to worry about transferring it between them when I drive one or the other.

Yup. I completely forget it’s up there. Have it hard wired to my cig lighter so it’s completely autonomous. So much so that when I did the Hell’s Gate obstacle in Moab last month, I forgot that I provided a POV video of the climb using my own dash cam until the next day.

I have the Crosstour 1080P. It records actual time and GPS coordinates. I’ve been using it for three years now.

I also have a BlackVue front and rear with the OBD connection. Super easy to tuck all the wires up into the headliner and down the A-Pillar. Originally powered via fuse taps, but changed to the OBD connection.
