They are rapidly going down hill

No more HEMI without also getting the eTorque 1663135887339.png

dumping the ecodiesel 1663136038136.png

First Fiat ( FCA ) does not do anything worth much
Now Stellantis ( Peugeot ) gets rid of the best parts of what is left

who is going to buy it next ? Bill Gates ?

I'm not so sure I buy into this. Pulling a product before your next product has been introduced and on the streets building a positive reputation is simply foolish.

We are a long long way away from a mass switch over to EVs simply because the recharging infrastructure isn't there (thinking about the whole country) and isn't something that can be placed rapidly.

The announcement is likely the right thing to say in this climate but the wrong thing to do if you want to sell vehicles. We can take a lesson from Europe with their push for renewable energy and now they are scrambling for coal and natural gas to make power. It all sounds good until ...

Very sad. By forcing the EV change without having a bigger EV grid, people may end up stranded on long trips or not able to make trips anywhere. I’m really hoping they don’t screw us over on owning our ICEs when the law arrives that nobody is allowed to buy any ICE anymore. It’s already in writing here in the United States. 2035. No more ICE Vehicles to be sold. I’ve had the chance to drive a Tesla and while it is different I’m not super comfortable with the way they drive. The one I test drove as soon as you release the accelerator the car starts slowing down pretty quickly. I get that it’s an electric motor and they are designed to brake through the motor but it’s weird for me. I’m used to coasting.

wow. I looked long and hard at getting dsl 1500 because we use my ram for towing our travel trailer and for travel. the ram 1500 dsl was the best overall setup for me because you can get 33 gal. tank and 3.92 rear end in one. so good towing range and peppy performance. I like the straight 6 that GM has and several folks I know rave about them but small gas tank and no towing gears is a turn off for my use of it. glad I didnt get one if they are only going to have a short run..

Over-under for it to be an EV thread: 3 posts.

Actual number: 4, over wins!

GM will still sell you a diesel. They have really stepped up their interiors. Exterior is at least somewhat unique and probably the best in the past 3 generation/updates. Stellantis hasn't said anything about not offering diesel Jeeps. I kind of suspect without the European market for diesel everythings, we wouldn't see the sliver of light duty diesels in the US we do have. German and Italian makers have been the main pushers over the years, with domestics occasionally offering an alternative. Remember Mercedes diesels in Jeeps? VW diesel everythings? Vs GM's first forays and how they ruined a generation of buyers on the entire concept by how horrible they were? :D

GM may sell you a 1500 diesel but the GM forums are filled with diesel problems. Coolant and rear main seal leaks on brand new trucks. Various emissions sensors that die and shut down the truck with no parts availability. All on very low mileage trucks within the b/b warranty period. That’s a very expensive roll of the dice.

Also, there’s no diesel savings here at the pump…

I was never thrilled with Fiat shoving a VM Motori diesel into the American pickup truck market. Before Chrysler went bankrupt, Cummins was going to put in their new 5.0 liter V8 diesel, but Fiat nixed the deal. Cummins went with Nissan instead, which was a mistake, of course, and since stopped production. It wasn't a great engine anyway - they needed to put in their well known ISB4.5 liter in-line 4 cylinder. That's what I was waiting for.

Now we got nuthin', or 1,000 ft-lbs. No choices anymore. I wanted a reasonable size diesel for my 3/4 ton. Ain't happenin'.

Who makes that 3.0L diesel again? Don't think it's actually an Isuzu, is it?

I was planning on ordering another eco-diesel quad cab, when my Extended Warranty runs out.

But i won't be rushed

..................................................

In 2022 EcoDiesel engines are still made by VM Motori, now a fully owned subsidiary of Stellantis, and a sister company of Ram and Jeep. Stellantis was formed in 2021 when Fiat Chrysler merged with the French PSA Group.

Personally, I would not buy any emissions era light duty diesel. The Ram offering has certainly not been trouble free, mechanically or legally. The last diesel I had, and it will always be the last diesel I had, was a pre-ULSD 7.3L Ford.

That sucks. I just bought a new Eco and have so far been impressed with it. The current line of thought with EV is Ludacris at best and only being driven for money in their pocket politicians.

In hindsight, many, like myself are lucky the Cummins 5.0 was nixed. Terrible engine. I would have bought one based on my past experience with the Cummins 5.9.

I picked up my Mail yesterday

Stellantis mailed me a letter

They are asking me if i would allow them to take my Ram up north to Ontario California.
They want to run my eco-diesel through the
' In Use Verification Program '
it is done by the Automotive Testing and Development Services
it is a mandated test program to measure Emissions.

I have to go to the hospital to see 2 specialists, but when i get back home, i will try to copy the letter & post it
