Debadging

[NY Blue Streak]

Hi,
I have been following all of your great looking trucks. Inspired to start doing some mods. I have a 2014 1500 Sport Blue Streak. I will be changing the front and rear emblems to the black ones. Any suggestions where to get them would be helpful. I was thinking from the Mopar site. I was wondering on the door and fender chrome emblems eliminating them entirely. My question is after 2 years being outside do you think the paint color has changer where it will be noticeable underneath? Please let me know what you think. Thanks in advance.

believe it or not ebay is probably the cheapest place to get the black emblems.

you will most likely have ghosting after you take the badges off if you decide to debadge. A good cleaner wax or some light work with a compound should help get rid of the ghosting.

If there is a little grit line left over around the badges, it's easy to get off with a bit of polishing compound and then wax.

Also, the paint under the badge may look a bit darker but with exposure to UV (sunlight) that issue won't last long.

I just removed mine not too long ago and it left outlines.

Goof-off pro-strength did wonders.

I pulled off all except my hemi emblems when the truck was just about 2 years old and there was no notice of difference in paint. But it will depend on conditions your truck has sat in. Good polishes/paint correctors will blend a minor difference though. Just make sure the surface is free of crap before using products or it can swirl or scratch. Id wash then claybar then use paint correctors. For me the 3M adhesive remover wheel was a must for this truck. The emblems are huge compared to your average car.

When I did my 2011 in brilliant black, was worried about color variation. Removed badges with fishing line, then eraser wheel and plastic razor. I finished it off with some goo gone and quick wash/cleaner wax of the badge areas.

First full wash I still had some ghosting where the badges were installed but by the second wash you can't tell they were ever there.

Used a heat gun and body filler spreader to pop them off. Took the gunk off with an eraser wheel. Then used a buffer with fine cut, and there was never any sign the emblems existed.

I had lot of issues getting the adhesive residue off after pulling the badges. Goo-Gone hardly did anything.

Finally just dabbed a rag with some gasoline and it melted right off. Cleaned off any remaining gas and applied wax.
