Does anyone know if you HAVE to remove this rubber?

I didn't install it yet, but if this rubber has to come off, I'll return the item.

Thanks!

I just installed this last night and took mine off per the instructions.

It stops the tail gate from rattling though (so I read), that's why I didn't want to remove it.

I'll install it tomorrow knowing I can keep that rubber piece there.

I pulled mine just because the instructions said to. I was actually going to see if it would go back on this afternoon but now that it seems like it does I'll just put it back on without needing to check anything myself.

I just installed it today, and it does press against that rubber piece. I didn't remove it but it makes sense why they mentioned to take it off.

I removed it on my 2016 when I installed it and I never had any rattling...I held on to the piece just in case but never needed to put it back.

Remove it. Not removing may cause far more issues than removingit, prevents.

soem gusy worry about every little thing, evne the ones that will never ever happen.

If tailgates otu of alignement, then align it so it do es nto rattle. how much do you really think that peice of rubber is goign to do, or last, once that metal tailgate starts slamming around , o n it or against it?

if ya need it, add it back, later, high and out of the way.

I left it on my 2014 1500, but removed it after the first attempt to close the gate. The cylinder was pressed hard against the rubber pad. That pressure was just setting up the cylinder for a future leak.
As others have said, no rattles or squeaks with the pad removed.
