I also read directions, followed them to the proverbial "T" because of the negative reviews and haven't had one problem with it at all. The only problem I do have is I'm so used to the ease of opening my tailgate when I work on another truck in my shop I tend to forget that all tailgates are not as easy to open as mine and I tend to let them go and they drop rather rapidly!!!!! With a thud.....

Just heads up if you ever have an issue you can email them and they will send replacement parts free of charge. All they ask is picture of receipts and picture of broken part. I just had a claim this week and it was handled immediately. Great customer service.

I've installed one on 5 different trucks without a single issue. Love these!

I just ordered one off Amazon. I'm a bit concerned when you guys keep asking about 'paint scrub'... What exactly are you guys talking about? Did it rub the tailgate somewhere? Just wondering what I should look for as I install it...

I went back through the thread, one poster asked about it, one said he had it, the rest said nothing about it or said they don't have paint scrub. I don't have it on either and I've had the DZ on the 2013 since May of 2013.

Some guy off here showed the advertisement where Ram had these from the factory for 2016. Does anyone know if this made it from the advertisement to the assembly line? I know another guy on here said his 16' didn't come with one. Mine is getting ready to hit the assembly line here in a few weeks so I am wondering if mine will have one.

So I said 'asking'...guess I should have said mentioning. Still, if it did rub on old one where did it rub?

If it rubs, it will be between the side of the closed tailgate and the truck body, where the piece of rubber gets attached to the drop cord.

I love mine and when I got my new ram it was the first thing I bought and installed. Within the first week. I had one on my 1500 and never had any issues.

my 2014 Express did rub. the strut at the upper mount on the body rubbed on the tail gate as I closed it.

My 2015 2500 doesn't rub what so ever. Love it either way. My 08 Tundra had this from the factory, been spoiled ever since.

How time consuming would it be to disconnect these to remove the tailgate? I remove my tailgate every few weeks to use my truck camper during the camping season.

About 30 seconds.

Use a small screwdriver to hold the spring clip on either ends of the shock and pop the shock out, one end at a time. Then remove the tailgate cable, as you normally would.

There are 2 ways to solve the nutsert problem:
1. Drill a hole and tap it with the right threads, the loctite it and screw it in.
2. Buy a nut the right size, drill a hole and get in there to tighten it down, I don't have a 2500 (yet) but had to use a paint stirrer taped to a box end wrench for my F250...

Once either one of these are done, no worries at all. Sometimes that nutsert thing still gives issues even if you follow the directions.. I had a problem on my F150 a while ago, part of the problem was the hole the nutsert went into was more oval than round

Installed mine a few weeks ago. Install was smooth enough, but I got a question...

I was under the impression that it would 'grab' the second you opened the tailgate. Mine free-falls for about 6" before 'grabbing'. Think I got a defective strut or do all of yours operate the same?

The first few inches of opening will be like that because the assist hasn't yet rotated to the point that the strut starts to extend.
