has anyone heard anything new about the legality of deleting\tuning, that's not doom and gloom?

i really want to do this just to help wake up the cummins, but don't want to sink in the money only have to redo it .

i know in Texas we only have a safety inspect, no emissions.

this is really the only update that i can find.

Tampering with or deleting emissions systems has been illegal at the federal level for ever. As long as you don't think your states going to crack down on it and you're out of warranty go for it. You can probably save yourself a lot of money in the future as many of these systems start having a lot of problems around the 100K mile mark.

Emissions equipment and testing is here to stay and is only going to get worse so I would plan on keeping all the stuff you take off so you can put it back on if needed.

I have no desire to delete my truck at this point. It runs great, still has some warranty left, has plenty of power etc. The only time I would even consider it is "if" I started having emission related issues that was going to cost me thousands out of pocket to fix. At that point I might look into deleting?

Reasons for me not to delete. EPA crack downs, tuners are getting shut down so who knows what kind of support you are going to get down the road? I've seen a lot of guys who have tuned start to have issues throwing codes, not running or shifting right, and of course you stand a very good chance of trashing your transmission with the added power. I see more people having issues with tuned trucks then I do stock emission trucks.

When I weighed the risks/benefits it just didn't make sense to me. But that's me. I know a lot of people do it and are happy with it so it's a tough call. The loss of warranty and almost certain end to the transmission at some point were the big ones for me.

From what I have seen the newer DEF trucks, say 2014 and up don't benefit a lot as far as mpg gains when deleting/tuning. The older 2013 and back seem to get the most benefit.
From all the feedback I have seen it sounds like about ~1mpg gain from deleting the newer trucks is what you can expect? Not a lot. Now some people claim a lot more then that but the majority seem to be around that 1 mpg mark give or take.

AI'm sure someone will chime in and say they got 5+ mpg gain etc but it just doesn't line up with the majority of what I have seen people getting so I have to take it with a grain of salt.

What kind of mpg are you getting now?

30mpg Lol, No way.

Are you numbers hand calculated or what the computer says? You are getting better then me either way. My best highway unloaded is about 18.5 (hand calculated, my computer is off 2+ mpg) but I'm running 75+ mph so that kinds of kills it. If you can cruise at 65 I think you can do much better. And I'm about 15-16 give or take running around a rural town.
