Ok so I got my Diablo Trinity today and installed the 87 Octane Tune. (Figured I'd start there to see if I like it and work my way up) I have to say it made a HUGE difference in acceleration and the shifts. The question I have is that when I am at WOT and it goes to shift from 1st to 2nd, i think its over 6000 rpms, I am hearing some knock. Now it is pretty hot and humid here, about 97 for the high today but about 81 when I first heard the knock. What is this? Should I be thinking about returning to stock tune and sending the Diablo back or is this something written into the tune that should be adjusted? Would different gas solve the problem? My truck is a 2010 - 5.7 - 1500. I like the performance the Diablo lends but if its at the expense if major engine damage, I'm not interested. just new to this tuning thing and any help would be greatly appreciated.

I no a hand held tuner can make a pinging noise at wot if you are not getting the right octane/gas

I should have noted that I am running 87 octane gas with 87 Octane tune.

Always run one grade higher octane fuel than the tune your loading,
there's very little quality control to ensure your getting good fuel

...also Hemi's should never use less than 89 octane fuel IMHO
its even recommended in the owners manual

I've always run 94 Octane fuel all year round, (3.5 years now)
93 Diablo tune, max rev limiter, max shift points max throttle boost.

almost zero LT or ST Knock when data Logging quarter mile runs

Recently Supercharged and added a Water/**** kit to ensure my octane is never below 116 to insure I wont have detonation.

Something else to consider would be adding a catch can now that you have the tuner installed. I'm with BRH in that I do not like 87 octane fuel even on stock tuning. If you are running 87 octane on the 87 tune with no catch can, then you are more than likely going to get some noticeable knock at higher rpms. Try running a higher grade fuel on your next fill up.

So a catch can will eliminate the knock? I should say ping because that is what it truly is rather than a knock.

I find it hard to believe the VERY little oil that would make its way through the intake would cause pinging compared to the gas pumped through the inhectors at any moment. the ratio wouldn't be THAT far off (maintenance depending) If it doesn't on a 2 stroke, sure as hell wont on a 4 stroke.

Im not thinking its gas quality. With good air and exhaust and tune, it shoudnt happen. Id suspect tune, it doesn't happen stock right?? Im not knocking hemifevers tune (im running it as well) but ive never seen any maps laid out infront of me and never had any conversations as to why its like that. Im taking his and everyones word its good. haven't noticed any probs on mine yet though (less than 1200 km's)

Spark perhaps?? Coils? ( less likely), sensor out or drifting leading to improper calcs? Or possibly the fact a hemifever tune is TIGHTER bound than a stock tune requiring all reg maintenance to be upheld, or even more often
