Holy crap! I didn't even know I had a storage area and cd player under the seat until I reading this thread! Thanks!

In one of the pictures of the bench seat, I noticed a small divot on the seat. Is that from the seat belt? I have it too. It drives me crazy whenever I lift up the storage area to use the seat.

Yes it is and it annoys me also, but at this point I do not know what to do to prevent / eliminate that. :(

I have the front bench seats and here is what I like

1. Pop out drawer under the radio is hidden. I didn't realize it was there until a couple weeks after owning the truck lol.

2. My Laramie has a CD player which is in the storage area under the seat so nice place to also store cd's.

3. Front seats feel much roomier with the open space between the driver and passenger. More lateral leg room as well.

So would you say roomier with the bench but less storage? I've always had the console in my rams but have a bench seat in my 66 Buick and I do love being able to relax in that, whereas my truck is always more of a bolstered driving position.

I have a question hopefully not too far off track...do the consoles have ac/heat ductwork to feed the back seat area?

Thanks!

Not 100%, but I believe crew cabs do and quad cabs do not.

Just slide the buckle to the top of the seat and hold it while lowering the seatback.

I guess it's less cubby storage but there is a huge amount of open usable space in front of the middle seat so it's hard to say. But you could also use the middle seat as well so I think it's more functional space.

I sat in both and strongly prefer the bench. I had a console in my last truck and it just collected crap I never actually used. I found a mini disc player in there. Seriously. Google that and find out how old that is! There is a metric ton of storage in the 19 Ram bench and its very well thought out. If you miss the console I'd say pull out the under radio bin and its pretty close to the console. As mentioned above you also get yet another seat.

I went and test drove a Laramie with bench seats and I want to say I am very impressed. Although consoles look nicer and appealing, I would say not by much. Here are the things that I liked:

1) Your right hand will get a full resting area as opposed to half of your forehand hanging over the cliff in the console style.

2) the cushioning on the arm portion just feels so much comfier on the bench style.

3) I do agree on the openness that you feel with the bench style.

4) Obviously you have the functionality of the extra seat.

5) If I want to stretch out and sleep in the truck, I don't have to go to the back. I can do it right in the front seats.

6) the looks are also pretty good and not far off from the console style.

So right now it's appeal/storage vs comfort/practicality.

Thanks for all the helpful answers so far.

I prefer the bench for all the reasons you stated. My new one has a console and I don't really care for it.

7) You have the ability to slide across the seat. In the morning before school, my daughter gets in the truck & starts it, fiddles with the radio, and then slides over.

I would be terrified to let my kids get in the car without me .. lol . I am worried if they accidentally change the gear or something. I did that once when I was young, so it's in the gene.

The console under the armrest is bigger in the bench seat truck and the centre seat has another storage console underneath it that's close to equal space wise to the lower console storage. Really not much storage room difference. I have 1 of each. Actually prefer the bench over the console. Feels roomier with nothing beside my right knee.

I know they seem bigger, however both the bucket and bench seats are exactly the same seats, the only difference is the center section.

I fit a small pizza box, and a normal take out box and a small take out box in the center of my console the other night.

I'm aware of this. There's a thread for guys swapping centre seat for console and vice versa. Seats are identical if the trucks are the same trim level. Just more room to move your legs around with all the extra knee room on the bench seat.

I don't believe the newer rams still have the lower storage with bench seats. When shopping for my 17 I had seen older models where it lifted up like that and figured it was about same storage but then I asked a salesman and we went out and looked at one and the armrest opened up but the bottom seat would not. I wouldn't see why they would change that and if they did it's pretty stupid but if your worried about storage definitely check to see if that middle seat still lifts up because I believe it doesn't. Interested to see what you find tho

I have the 2018 power wagon with the bench seat. the bottom seat opens up on mine and it has 2 usb ports for the uconnect inside the armrest
