You simply divide the the amount of miles traveled by how many gallons of gas was used.what's the best way to "hand calculate"? Easy steps, I'm very math challenged...
So, when you fill the truck up, reset the trip meter too. Then, when you put gas in it next time, divide the amount of miles you drove by how many gallons you put in to fill it back up.
If you want to get a more accurate reading, you can keep filling up as many times as desired, without resetting the trip meter…but you will have to keep a tally on how many gallons you keep putting in the truck. Then, when you get, say, a few thousand miles on the truck, do the calculation.
