I did something similar but slightly easier. Autozone sells a 2 pack of 8" led strips. I bought green to match the factory lights. I simply popped off the dash bezel, used wire taps to tap the power wire to the headlight switch (powered only when parking/headlights are on, and also works w dimmer) and then tapped the ground for the cigar lighter. There's already a space in here lower panel to pass the strip through. The strip is the perfect width to stick on the lower edge of the dash panel above the cup holders w the 3m tape it comes with.

Voila, nice soft green light and easy to do. :)

Just did this to mine, I only have 1 light now since radioshak only had one in stock but it worked really well and looks good, very nice write up man. I also planned on trying to put another one in the little slot right above the air controls on my 2004 because its also dark in there.

I am going to have to try this after installing my aux port. I might try to see if I can install a micro switch so the light only comes on when the cup holder is down.

Anybody have a write up for 02-05 guys? My cupholders are not the same at all. The top of the cup holders where the lights go looks completely different
(Insert necro-thread comment *HERE*)

I did something similar in my 02, albeit easier and less involved....

Thanks to our good buddies the Red Chinese, I picked up a set of 4 LEDs at AutoZone for around 15 bux. They came with a cig lighter plug (w on/off switch) and about 6' of slack wire per bulb, which are housed in matte black plastic, self-stick modules. There's no permanent alterations, drilling or wiring needed.

I put one over each cupholder and one in each footwell. I bundled and zip-tied the slack wiring and hid it under the trim piece... you can get as involved (or not) as you want here.

BTW, blue was not my first choice, but it was all A-Zone had in stock at the time... easy enough to change out later if I feel the need.
