I bought an 8.4 unit/kit from Infotainment 1-1/2 years ago, worked fine. Now the radio works but the touch screen quit working. I've seen threads where this has happened but no posts on what they did. Should I replace the screen or do I need the whole unit?

I imagine that the problem would need a bit of troubleshooting to determine what's wrong with it. I don't think anyone here can tell you for sure without any more info besides your saying the touch screen quit working. But I think it's reasonable to assume that the screen is what went bad based on the symptoms you gave. What is the price difference (parts cost only) between a new screen and a new complete unit?

I can buy a used receiver, complete radio, for around $200-$250 or a screen for $75-$125.

Anyone here replace just the screen? Why, and did it fix the problem?

I've replaced screens, but not for the same reason as you. I replaced my screens because they delaminated. It caused ghosting, where it would randomly press buttons.

It fixed MY problems, but I would agree with mike in that I would want to do a little more troubleshooting. I would not buy a used screen because you may risk delamination issues down the road. A new one is $300.

I mean, it's your money so if you want to blast the parts cannon by all means go for it. I personally wouldn't do it unless I was confident that I knew what the problem was.

At the very least though, if you're going to fire the cannon, fire it with new parts and not used or you may end up chasing your tail.

I'd say the screen itself is shot and not that expensive or hard to replace, but I wouldn't swear it on a Bible. I replaced mine, because the one I bought (UAQ from 2018 with AA and carplay) had a very worn screen. 1st one I got looked amazing, but had ghosting issues immediately so I returned it and ordered from another seller which I installed and it still works great. Like @nlambert182 said, you could be throwing parts at it,but it is the most likely culprit and not super expensive or hard to do. Just watch a YouTube video.

Yeah, I'm not sure about getting a used receiver but if I do get a screen it'll be a new one. EBay has them for around $100 - $125

Make sure you're looking for the correct screen. I would avoid SL02 screens and look for SL03. SL02s have the delam issue.

Well, I f'ed up the mother board trying to remove one of the ribbon connectors. Hands are too shaky. Looks like I'm buying a radio.

It definitely requires a delicate touch. That stinks OP.

Good luck with a replacement! If you buy used, make sure it's not the SL(02) model.

Pretty sure the replacement i installed was sl02 and it works perfectly. Mine isn't OEM, not sure if it makes a difference.

SL02s do work fine for a while. The issue with those isn't the radio, it's the glue between the screen and the diffuser. The glue in the SL02s fails, so even if it works fine today there's a higher than normal chance that it will fail down the road. Doesn't mean it will, but the chance is there. This is why the SL02s are replaced with SL03s.

It's possible that the aftermarket SL02 screen was built in a different factory, but most of the time it's still made by LG. Not sure if it's the same or not.

Gotcha, not hard or expensive to replace if it happens. As of now the screen is great, have had it for at least 1 years, maybe longer.

Yep Jack W I did same f’ng thing those ribbon cables are paper thin, I ended up buying a whole new replacement $1300 later with employee discount, I say if anyone don’t have the patience, steady hands and electronic speciality go that route, I like many had the delaminated going on and ghosted on me randomly
