I’m changing rear differential gasket and oil. used vehicle did not come with manual and I’m not sure whether this truck has limited slip differential. I’ve watched video & trying out some method, such as jacking up with two stands while rotating tires.
I’d like to make sure the truck (2006 Dodge Ram 1500 slt) did not come with limited slip differential. any advice would be greatly appreciated. Ty

You will probably have better luck getting answers if you look/post over in the 3rd generation section of the forum. You've posted in the 5th generation section (2019+) so you may not get as many responses here.

Not sure if you can look up build sheets that old but you can try to copy/paste your vin here and see if the build sheet for your truck comes up. Why don't you want limited slip?

No problem at all, common mistake. Hopefully the information will be more plentiful there for ya.

Hey is this the same post for the 2006 Ram 1500 SLT? If so, both size engines with 5 speed auto trans call for limited slip additive with the gear lube front and rear according to the service guide I have access to. Hope this helps!

It does seem more complicated than it should be! If your main concern is making sure you are putting the correct fluids and additives in the right places - google the product Universal MGC made by BG. Gear supplement compatible with conventional and LS diffs. Good luck!

If you call a dealer with the VIN they should be able to tell you what type of differential you have.

Doesn't matter. Straight out of your year factory service manual:

The majority of the gear oils have additive already in them. It is the general thought that additive will not affect open diffs. When I had TruTracs (Torsen gear type) in my Jeeps, it was a pain to find gear oil without additive because the additive affects the bias.

On the back of the bottle it will say some statemets like, "For conventional and LS, no additive required" etc. Finding local gear oil without it is a pain(well it was a few years ago), MOPAR $$$ and some "specialty" brands were all I could find.

IIRC, there is a tag on or near the differential. The tag denotes ratio, and whether it is locking or not. "3L92" indicates a 3.92 ratio, with a locking differential.
