I saw that the Colorado 4x4 Recovery team on FB used a land anchor a couple of weeks ago to recover a vehicle, but it was a Jeep and the anchor was used to redirect the winch line since they were working in a burn scar with few trees available. It seemed to work well for them.

Well, I got buried in the sand twice to the frame, so I bought one about 8 years ago. Of course, because I did this, I have yet to get buried in my Wrangler since. I do plan on carrying it in the PW on beach runs so that I will never get stuck, lol.

if you drive on muskeg you will get stuck and it doesn't weigh much so I'm not sure a deadman would work

I have the Smitybuilt. Of course since I purchased it I have yet to get stuck again. Maybe the purchase itself is the guarantee you will never get stuck again... I wish. I have tested it in the sand and it seems Ok but again, it has not been used in an actual on the frame situation yet.

I have the Pull Pal 14000, haven't had to use it yet but have no doubt it will get me out of a sticky situation.
Talked to Pat the owner, he makes a 16000 that he sells to the military for use with Hummers.

Used my pullpal, worked flawlessly. So glad I had it after pulling the only two trees around straight out of the ground.
