DRL Daytime Running Light Functionality

I thought about having the dealer flash the dlr's after I got my lights done from JJ, but with 35% tint on the windshield, my auto lights are on most of the time anyway lol

Guess it depends on what your time is worth, it would cost 3 times that to drive around and sit at different dealers all day while they try to see if they can turn them on. Plus I hate letting those fools mess with my truck.

Fair enough, plus having to swap PCM units and retune. Downside I see is that it sounds like it needs to stay plugged in?

Nope, you simply start the truck, plug it in, it programs in approx 60sec, unplug, turn truck off.....bam you now have DRL’s. Just keep the genie because it is married to the trucks vin. My AMP steps are plugged into my OBDII

Seriously I got DRLs in less than 5min

Only downside is the cost, but I have seen some dealers charge $120 that could do it (reported here), so it’s not that much more. Again, I don’t have time to waste making appointments at dealers for them to “try” and activate it. This was hassle free 100%

I bought the OBDGenie to activate my DRL's and I love them, very bright even in full sunlight, wish I had done this months ago. I recently turned the headlight switch to the parking light/fog setting and noticed they didn't turn off, they allow me to have the DRL's with fog lights. They do turn off when you turn the knob all the way to headlights.

Does the dealer activated lights allow fogs too?

No but if you just turn on the parking lights your DRLs stay on so in turn the cab lights will work and also the fog lights etc

Curious, the site says *2015+ vehicles do not have on-screen DRL toggle. Does this mean I won't have the on/off option on my 2016 screen?

My 14 Journey has the DRL option on the screen, even though they aren’t activated. My 17 Ram doesn’t have the option on screen at all.

Exactly, DRLs via OBD Genie don’t have on/off onscreen on 2015+

My 14 Journey has the DRL option on the screen, even though they aren’t activated. My 17 Ram doesn’t have the option on screen at all.

No it doesn’t, hence the reason JB1 posted this about the OBD Genie. It’s an add-on

Yes and take time off from work, but you get to watch The View or Ellen while your waiting, maybe even enjoy some delicious dealer popcorn lol

Lol yep, I must admit my dealer is fairly new and their waiting area is really nice. Free coffee, tea, bottles of water, credit card vending machines, and the station is always set to FOX news.

My service tech said they’ve done the update before and should only take an hour. I’m set to have it done on Monday.

That’s awesome, your gonna really like it, they are very very bright. I was in a drive thru the other day, and looking across the highway I could see my Amber lights reflecting on their glass door which was easily 200 yards away and this was in the daytime obviously. Don’t forget if you set it to park they still work with fog lights on too

And just like that, my dealer activated my DRL’s.

I had completely forgotten the dealer owed me $140 for a bad alignment job not to long ago. I gave them two chances to get it right before taking my truck somewhere else. Regardless, instead of paying the $40 difference for the DRL’s they simply zeroed everything out for me.
