DRL On in daytime

Hi Guys,

A proud 2023 1500 Limited owner in Australia, I have been trying to have the DRL on in daytime, but no go....
Anyone had this issue? and how did you overcome.
Also how do you get the mirrors to auto fold when locking and unlocking the RAM via the keypad?????

You can set these features using AlfaOBD if you have it. Do you see the DRL option in your radio?

I think there is a on/off function in your center touch screen under settings,

I have been trying to have the DRL on in daytime, but no go....

DRL lights should be on any time the vehicle is in gear and the parking brake is not set.
As others mention there is probably a setting in the radio to enable/disable the DRLs.
The DRLs can be set for the Low Beam, High Beam, fog lights, dedicated or running lights using AlfaOBD.

If you don't have the auto power fold option on your screen, AlfaOBD may be used to set the feature. I know it did in my '16, but not sure about a '23.
Set the "Auto Power Folding Mirrors CSM Present: No", to a yes. Turn off ignition open door so radio shuts down and then that option should show up on radio screen shortly. Then you can toggle / off as desired

Think the "D" in DRL means "daytime", no matter where you are.

In the U.S. , many dealerships will tell you that it can't be added
They are just LAZY & can't be bothered

The 1st step is to change the settings to "For Use In Canada" in the Dealerships WiTech or what ever they use now to check software

Somewhere online, there is a PDF file on how to do it

I know that i have seen it posted on this Forum & over on the Z

Daytime Running lights have been mandated by the federal government back in around 1990. All of Canada! I think from personal experience from spending a lot of time on the road, DRLs are a great idea. On coming vehicles are far more visible and from a further distance.

They're not for you to see better, they're so that others can see you. And having them off when everybody else is running them is not exactly the "brightest" (heh) thing to do because you're less visible to grannies and others with poor or careless vision.

Obviously you do not care about other people's safety just how cool you think you look. What is it hurting to have DRL active is it hurting your truck somehow?

We should remove all pre 1990 vehicles off the road immediately! Because " safety " GTFOH ! What's next, you will tell me I should of added ABS brakes, Seat belts , DRLs on my Rat Rod so you can feel safe.

If you to old and blind you cant see a full size lifted truck coming down the road, You're the problem not me.

mine are on 24/7/365 i do it because i want people to see the truck. i also run the fog lights as well.
wife drives the truck and i want her to be safe.


personal preference on one's vehicles lights doesn't make them an idiot. Saying that, now many are adding all those LED light strips to the front and underneath., including behind the wheels.

Down here just outside of San Diego ..
On a few of the 2 lane country roads, they have Mandated that DRLs shall be ON, 24/7
These particular roads are narrow & curvy, they have the Highest Accident rate of all the roads in this area.

Honestly, almost every brand of car/ pickup leaves the assembly line with DRL option
Only Chrysler products here in the USA do not leave the factory with DRLs

Because of a Violation, my Ambient Light Sensor is Covered & my Headlight Switch is set to AUTO

In Court the Judge agreed with me about Chrysler products should have the DRL option,
He cut the FINE Price, i had to pay 1/3 of the normal fee.

Why would anyone go out of their way to disable them though, that's the question. "sticking it to the government"? I hate overreach as much as the next guy but this is a non issue, it doesn't cost you a thing financially or otherwise to just leave it as it came from the factory. Not worth getting bent out of shape over it.

Years ago I was approached by a law enforcement agency that wanted to disable the DRL on one of their unmarked surveillance vehicles. At that time, I contacted the folks in Windsor for info and they had an absolute fit. They wanted all the vehicle info especially the VIN. I conveniently forgot to send the info. I told the police "how" to do it but I would touch it nor would I allow any of the techs to touch it.

I live in Ontario Canada where DLR ( DayTime Running Lights ) IS THE LAW ! many vehicles came from factory with them using the front Marker (signal) lights and done some research and found that I can move mine from the low side of the high beam to the marker (signal) light and still be legal and seen ! so that is what I did ! I also run LED lights through the whole truck ! I do like to be seen ! just because it is a truck Don't mean that you will be seen coming down the road !

Just putting in my thoughts and 1/2 cents worth !
