I have a '17 1500 Hemi. Recently I noticed that whenever I apply brakes I get this dull grinding noise, I can hear it on the front left tire area. So naturally I assumed I needed new brake pads. Yesterday I installed the new ones, took the truck off the jack and had the same issue. So now it has to be a warped rotor? so today I replaced the rotor and I'm still getting the same issue. I'm now at a loss at what's causing the grinding noise when I brake. I thought maybe it could be a different wheel but I definitely hear it both inside and outside the vehicle in the front left. Pictures below our of new rotor and pads. Any idea whats causing this? Also, noticing on the rotor a wear pattern on the top that appeared only after driving up and down the street. could the caliper be rubbing against the rotor?

Looks like the pad is dragging on the top and bottom. Are the pad seated correctly? Are the pins clean and lubed correctly?

Love these forums, lots of ideas . So here is my thought on you issue . I would check the caliper , is it sticking , next did you clean lube the sliders《 pull the pins out and remove rubber boots and clean and lube inside and out》. Check pins for rust and burrs and wear . Make sure that where the pads sit in those little metal clips are clean , smooth and lubed. I've had those clips bind a pad before . Removed them cleaned under them and filed them ever so little until pads slid but not sloppy . Just make sure wherever something moves its clean and rust free. Good luck and what I mentioned above I do yearly to keep things working .

Im gonna go out on a limb and suggest the caliper hold down bracket isnt tightened up or seated correctly . Its the non piston side no rear pressure, for a short hop test drive doing that you best remove all components check both sides of rotor and make it a do over . Caliper may be seized or piston went back in cockeyed or something , something aint right

Good advice Smitty. Too many times folks just re an re without wire brushing bedding surfaces/gliding surfaces or lubing slide pins an or replacing the boots or even checking calipers out. So easy, anybody remember bendix ? lol..

Well I think I found the issue. Took off the passenger side tire and found this. Just about to run to autozone and get a replacement rotor along with brake pads. but I'd bet my measly 401k that this is what caused the grinding. I bet if I put that rotor on a record player a heavy metal song would play. I was so adamant it was the drivers side didn't think to check the passengers side. No biggie because they both needed to be replaced anyways. rotor.jpgpad.jpg

That'll do it! Looks like a pretty quick diagnosis. Let us know if that solves the problem.

You should always replace both sides. Just replacing one could cause a pull to one side when braking. Also check the rear. My truck wore all 4 wheels the same so I'll bet your rears will need replacing too.
