I'm trying to find reasonably priced e class tires but having issues. Any suggestions?

Might want to take a look at Cooper tires.

Stock 20s. Just looking at options when I do replace them. I tow a travel trailer every other weekend now.

Before you get too far down the path, you might want to confirm that the rest of the suspension components are also going to carry the projected weight. 10-ply rated tires are pretty stiff, to say the least. If you run them soft when you're empty, trying to soften the ride, you run the risk of tread chunking.

Suspension is good to go. I also run an equalizer hitch as well. I read earlier about some people using the 10 ply rated to add stability. Thanks for the heads up on the ride quality.

Look at XL rated tires
Stiffer sidewalls and you can usually find factory size tires that aren't too expensive. Nitto Terra Grappler G2's are what I run.

It's not that I can't afford a grand on tires, but like most people who are raising a family, I try to be conscious of any savings I can get and balance that with build quality. I'll pay more for better quality, but if there is a good tire that is cheaper than some of the popular name brands, I'm willing to go with the less expensive option in order to use that money on other upgrades.

So glad you mentioned the thread chucking. My 06 Ram had that issue and I could never figure out what happened. I thought it was bad tires. Now I know , everyone else I asked was clueless.

Years ago, when owners of Explorers were rolling them over and having other disasters, a lot of the trouble was chunks of tread flying off the tires. They were running the tires soft in order to get a luxurious ride. They did, too, until things started flying apart.

I run bfg 2k0s they seem to be a good tire little ruff on the wet traction but no worse the the factory good years. They are a D rated tire max psi 65 typically run 45-50 in them. Might be a good middle ground for you. They are more expensive than the lower end E tires but the reviews are nothing but good.

Yeah Ford did that, everytime I took my 98 Explorer in for a oil change they would lower my air pressure from 35psi to 28psi.
Dam thing looked like it had 4 flats every time I picked it up I got pissed and just never went back untill they bought me 5 brand new BFG ATs and took the firestones off at 40,000 miles..

Really like the KOs on the Explorer its a beast in the snow.

If you want a good all season tread tire for the load, quiet, price and wear look at the General HTS 60 in the stock 20 size. XL load which is good for almost #3000.
Not heavy, ride quiet, handle very well, seem to be wearing well.

I am very pleased with them on my 1500. I do have 20 X 9 longhorn wheels and the Generals handle very well in every aspect - loaded and unloaded.

Not an offroad tire, but I have never had any issue - though I don't do serious offroading either.

General Grabber ATX 275-65-20 (34")! 3 peak snow flake rated and E-rated. Great tread pattern and absolutely no noise on highway. Have run KO2, terra & trail grapplers, original grabbers. ATX hands down the best tire, 7000 miles in and look perfect, they came with a 60,000 tread-ware warranty as well. I paid $259 installed per tire, fyi. Towing 8k lbs currently at 68-72 psi and they are fantastic, obviously miles above the stocks.

It's the "20"s that are driving the price on your tire choice. I bought tires for my last truck, and got 10 ply rated Firestone's for $600, but they were "17"s. A word of warning........ your truck will never ride the same, especially if you buy the cheapest ones you can buy. You can split the difference, and maybe not go all the way to 10 ply rating? Just look at the Max Pressure, and get tires that can be inflated to 50 or 60 lbs. Stronger than the stock shoes, tougher for towing, but might ride a little better.................
