Can see a lot here if search, but also on the Ram 1500 Diesel forum.

If you are leaning Eco diesel, you won't regret the purchase. Other great options as well.

I thought the Eco Diesel engine has been around for a while in Europe? That's what I remember hearing atleast.

Im loving my 15 ecodiesel. From what i understand is that Chrysler went to Cummins but they didnt have the right size of motor, either too small or too big. So Chrysler bought half of the rights to fiat or something along those lines and in turn inherited the 3.0L V6 turbo diesel with the deal which is why it made its way in to north american vehicles. The motor has been out for a while and seems to be tested and true. No complaints from me.

Also on a side note there have been great advances on tuners for it, looks like you can aim to see 300+hp and 500+ftlbs of torque with a tune.

Chrysler is owned by Fiat. So it was just a matter of time. I'd trust that motor. But I didn't really know anything about it until after I bought my 5.7 hemi.

Yeah i dont know the whole story behind it, heard several different variations. But i couldn't be happier with mine. Definitely cant complain driving around a quad cab 1/2 ton 4x4 that gets about the same fuel economy as my buddies 2007 honda civic! Havent tried any "real" towing yet, but a light single axle ATV hauler so far but it seems to do great for light towing as well.

The motor has been around for years. It is now used in grand Cherokee, for three model years, Ram, Masterati in Europe, it is also used in boat and military applications around the world. You can imagine thr testing that Governments do to qualify for military use.

I don't have all the history. The engine was designed many years ago by VM Motori with ownership interest by GM. GM wanted a refined, sporty and powerful diesel to better compete with luxury German cars in their Cadillac CTS. After design the recession hit, pausing everything. U.S. Ownership interest caused many changes including selling interests in this engine. If I recall correctly, there was a sale to fiat, then when fiat bought Chrysler, opportunities arose.

This motor is refined enough for high performance luxury sports cars and durable enough for military use.

Seems like a great engine and great MPGs. I thought I heard the payload capacity was super low... like around 1000# so once you load the truck with people and a few things in the bed you're about maxed out. So, maybe not the greatest for towing an RV or utility trailers but if you plan to use the truck the way 90% of trucks get used it should be great.

Yeah the limited with the ecodiesel has 1000 lbs payload! What's the point of a truck made to tow if you can't tow anything! Lol

Ram should really make some changes to the truck to bump payload up
