Some say it just shows you're driving in an "economical" way. Some say it's related to MDS. What I see in mine is that when I turn off MDS - either using T/H, or using the manual shift method, that light stops coming on. So they're saying you can't drive economically in manual shift mode? Or is it connected to MDS?

Occasionally a green little "ECO" light appears on the dash display. What does it mean? I don't see anything in the manual.
I also looked for this in the manual and found no mention of it, which was odd. My understanding is that ECO light = MDS mode = 4-cylinder mode for fuel efficiency.

The light is off by default for the 2019’s, but there was another thread on that topic, I thought mine didn’t even have it til I saw that thread.

People say it isn’t connected to MDS but in my last two SRTs with MDS and this truck, the light only turns on when accompanied by the drone of MDS.

I got a quiet exhaust on the 18 right now so, the MDS is a whole lot smoother transitioning than in the ole 08 so, when I went into the Uconnect settings to turn the Eco light on, I think it would really be safe to say that when the Eco light comes on, so is the mds. That, and I can also watch my real-time current fuel mileage and when the Eco light comes on, my mileage will shoot up to 25, 26 and when I give it enough gas to make the Eco light go out, it’ll drop back down to 16 or 17.

I am assuming you are talking about the gear limit selector, and yes, if you use that then it shuts MDS off.

Look up "Fuel Saver" in your owners manual. It will give directions on turning off the indicator on the cluster. Does not disable MDS, just turns off the light.

It turns off the appearance of the light, not the activation of the mode. It’s pretty obvious that when people ask what that light means, they aren’t insinuating that the actual light turns on MDS, but that the mode represents MDS kicking in.

Sure, I guess. Just commented on how to turn off the light.

This is not the first thread on what the light means.

Right but they’re not asking what the literal light means, they’re asking what “ECO” means. Which, from my experience, means MDS as it only kicks on and off to the tune of my MDS droning.

You’re not understanding. The only way to articulate the question is to refer to the light. In one thread, someone said his goal was to have the light come on as much as possible. In another, the person was curious what the mode did, similar to this one. Your post references turning off the actual light. They want to know what the mode does. The light is just representative of that mode, but if it turned on and off without consequence it wouldn’t matter. The substance is in what it does, which is why the debate centers around whether or not it truly represents MDS.

I think you should read the initial posts in this and those threads.

Oh I have and is not the first rodeo on this. Basically comes down to a "what came first, chicken or the egg?" and the prism people want to look through and confirmation bias they want to see it in.

The OP’s literal post says “what does this mean” and you provided suggestions on how to turn it off. Who’s confirming their bias here?

I'm really old, so this thread is providing an enormous amount of entertainment. ECOnomy in driving is the purpose of MDS, no? OK, think of some of the really problematic drivers of a Prius that you've seen. What are they doing, going so slow? Watching the indicators on their instrument panel. I don't know exactly what they see, but here's what's going on:
When your engine is idling, it pulls maximum vacuum and uses the least fuel. As soon as you start nudging the throttle, the vacuum starts to drop. More throttle = more fuel, so less ECOnomy. At the same time, less vacuum. If you had a simple vacuum gauge attached to the engine, it would provide the same information or turn on a light, or tell MDS to start or to stop. Years ago, it was possible to hook up a vacuum gauge and let that tell you what gear to choose and how much throttle to give it in order to maximize your gas mileage. Also,
Early automobiles had vacuum-operated windshield wipers. If you floored the gas pedal, the windshield wipers would stop wherever they were in the stroke and stay there at least until you let up part way on the throttle.

It was a generalized statement, not a personal attack.

Back to the OP question...I have a Pentastar with no MDS, but it still has the ECO light that comes on when at cruising speed....again, no mention of it in the manual though.
