I don't know how pronounced yours is, and some people are more sensitive to this than others. From my experience in owning several trucks with MDS, it's more noticeable on some trucks than on others. On a 2020 Laramie I owned, it was very pronounced. I could tell every time, which is when I first started disabling it with the gear limit switches. But on both the 2021 Limited I used to own, and the 2020 Limited we currently own it's difficult to tell when they transitioned back to 8 cylinders.

Without an audio file it's hard to say for sure, but probably normal.

Even with MDS disabled (by selecting a Gear Limit value), when letting off the gas there is a "burp".

You could go test drive a couple trucks at CarMax and get a basis for whether what you feel is actually "normal". I have a 2500 and I can kind of describe mine as feeling like a bit of a rumble when it turns off. But I am used to it now and don't really mind it.

That dealers way of telling you no matter what ,they are not who you want working on your truck. Did they even take it for a ride to experience what you are ? If not I would find a different dealer , there are a few good ones out there . However lots have issues with the truth ,do your best to double check what you’re told. Remember dealers lie ,,,,,, often.

That is what is called "assuming the worst". The OP did not say whether (or not) the dealer did a test drive. Clearly you are assuming they did not.

Fact is, new vehicles (of any brand/type) have "features" which are different than many may be used to. Dealer may be 100% right, OR they may be blowing smoke. BUT I will not make a judgment with data at hand.

Our 2020 Grande Cherokee 5.7, and the 2021 2500 6.4, I cannot feel a thing or hear it and I am pretty sensitive to any kind of a change. Only notice I get is the ECO light showing up.

So, I do get a "burp" when letting off the gas, and I have Econ turned off, as well as Eco-Mode (aka 4-cylinder) by selecting Gear Limit mode.

It is more noticeable with the 8 speed trucks. I can't tell when it kicks on in my 2012 1500 ( now my son's). If I really pay attention I can tell on my 2021 2500. Now with White Knuckle sliders, it's much more pronounced at lower speeds, say 40mph-ish, but still pretty invisible at highway speeds.

I don't think any 5th gens have a 6 speed?
