I'm new here & I read just about every post on here about ECU's for a 2000 5.9L and I haven't seen this problem on here, so I hope I can find someone who can help me out with this one...
I drive 2 miles & my 2000 dodge ram 1500 5.9L (fully charged battery w/no codes) I get a "CHECK GAUGES LIGHT" & I head home.
I had it scanned and I was told that I had a problem with the ECU. Its not telling the Alternator to charge the battery, The voltage regulator inside the ECU was faulty.
I then went to the local junk yard and found the correct ECU P56040410AD $80.00. Plugged it in and it wouldn't start. I took the ECU to the closest dodge dealer they told me that I needed to flash it for 160.00 and he asked me where my truck was. Told him it was home and I needed to be towed 3 towns over for over $250 bucks. He then said that the ECU's only take a flash 50% of the time, I took the guy as not wanting my business and said the hell with the pricey dealership n left...
I then online purchased a new ECU from www.FLASHMASTERS.com for $220.00 and it arrived fully flashed and I plugged it in and it started right up like the original ECU did. I made it 2 miles down the road and the CHECK GAUGES LIGHT came back on & my volts were dropping n I turned around and went back home and re charged the battery. I went to re-start the truck again and it wouldn't start. It would just try to start just like the ECU from the junk yard (that wasn't flashed to my truck.) So I plugged the original ECU back in and it fired right up. I called back FLASHMASTERS and they are overnighting me another ECU. (So my FLASHMSTERS ECU is now acting like my junk yard non flashed one. It try's to start but doesn't turn over.)
So weird....
Did it loose the flash? Do I have a short causing this? I'm at a complete loss.... I need some sort of direction. Thank you in advance & so sorry for this long post I tried to include everything I could think of for reference, Thanks
