Engine Hours

Hi !

I´m interested into buying Dodge Ram 2017 with over 100 000 Km (62137.119 miles)

But im worried about engine hours / idle hours. on screen there is a 266 idle hours and 644 drive hours.

is there something should be worried about ?

Generally not but to go 100k km in 644 hours the average speed comes out to 155 km/h. That seems implausible. Maybe it's 1644 hrs ?

I'd be more concerned with overall condition of the vehicle. Is the interior and body clean and original? If you want a true number for run time hours, etc. you'll need a scan tool.

The reason I say this is i've owned two Ram 1500s, a 2017 and a 2019 classic. Both randomly reset the engine hours back to zero between 1000-1500hrs. The idle hours did not reset. This is on a system where you cannot reset these timers.

Regardless, you'll get an idea of drive hours from the miles on the vehicle.

I lived and drove a long time without hour meters ,except on the tractor . I would be okay not having it in my truck , the odometer gives me enough information.

the drive hours randomly reset to 0 (happened to me and there are others on here that have reported the same thing) so disregard that number. I "assume" the idle hours that are displayed are legit but won't swear to it.

I know what you mean Daw. I'm an old LEO, and the amount of engine hours never seemed to hurt the old cars I drove back in the 70', and 80's. The thing that hurt them was the way they were cared for by the driver. OP, just make sure the truck was maintained correctly, and you should be OK.

1hr of idle equals 30 miles driving - so add 7,980 miles to the odmeter.

My 4.7 has 6800 engine hours (the 09 doesn't call out idle vs run) with 191k miles.
