3 years I spent in santa barbara, one season. In summer sun is so strong it creates fog, and perfect longatude for mild winter, from the hottest of summer to the coldest of winter you were lucky to see 20f difference. Weather is considered constant spring, no winter and no summer. Apparently now they have a second season, fire season, but those Santa Anna's are a double edged sword, that is why people love it there, during winter it is like a hair dry blowing your face.

Anyhow, op is in Michigan, so I'm not sure why people in that area and north just don't use 0w30, it is best effort oil from many blenders. Sadly redline caved and their 0w30 not as good as before, but many 0w30 choices best effort oils.
When I lived in the Red River Valley, I walked to work one early morning in a full scale blizzard... all of six blocks. The last block, I didn't think I was gonna make it. The NWS had a weather station a few miles outta town, and that evening on the local news they reported that the windchill had dropped to -106F. (Maybe that had a little something to do with the feeling that I was gonna die!)
Well , its a little warmer , in the house.I could be wrong, but I'm thinkin' -30C equals +70F... right?? ;-)
Actually, yes I have read the Owner's Manual. Nowhere does it say that 0W20 is "required". It says that we "recommend" 0W20. They also recommend that the oil meets the Chrysler MS-6395 standard, which Mobil1 5W30 does.Have you read the Owner's manual? There is a place which tells you all about required motor oil(s) for your vehicle. In many cases, the stated requirement is 0W or 5W20... with provision for 0W 0r 5W30 oil in different climes, such as down here in Houston, by God!, Texas. We are currently in a freeze with a Tuesday low of 19 degrees forecast. In MY vehicles, 5W20 is used in winter. My OWNER's Manual says it's okey-dokey to run 5W30 in our Tropical hot as Haydes summers.
