So .... I've started on the hemi rebuild, back in the day, I used to clearance the small block chevys at about .002" and found a couple of benefits. Reduced friction and less potential for scuffed pistons.
Does anyone see a problem with doing similar on the hemi?

If your talking about the main bearing clearance, .002" is right about the middle of the spec. Not too tight and not too loose.

2 thousandths seems to be about what most aim for on the cylinder wall clearance too. For cast pistons anyway.

Thanks for that! I subscribed to the Mitchell diy program and I have the Haynes manual along with the "New Hemi Engine" by Larry Shepard. My ribbon feeler guages required some searching but I tracked them down. I bought so fresh plastiguage both green and red. Dug out my micrometers and I'm just having a ball! I had to file all the rings because they were on the tight side. Better a bit loose than too tight. I ran a wire through all the oil galleries and then ran a "bottle brush" through everything. Tomorrow is crankshaft day and maybe install the piston and rod assemblies. I need to make up a tool to act as a "stop" for #1 piston so I can properly find TDC, then I'll install my degree wheel.
I'm having fun ........ no service manager breathing down my neck with the "when will it be ready?"
