Exhaust Options

Hello again, all! I have a 2021 Laramie 1500 and I have been shopping for exhausts and recently made a change that I'm not really happy with. I replaced the OEM muffler with a flowmaster, I think the Part number is Part # 942543. It's a much smaller than OEM muffler and its like a cereal box with the inlet and outflow offset. It gives my truck a a real deep throaty sound that I love, but its still way more tame than I'd like. It's a great upgrade from OEM, but I want some more volume to go with it. I told the exhaust shop that I wanted it loud, but I don't want to make my neighbors to hate me either. I also have a wife and kids so I dont need something that will wake everyone up when I get home at 2AM. So, loud enough to enjoy it, but quiet enough to not be obnoxious.
So, I have some options and I want some opinions. Should I straight pipe the muffler - get rid of it and just let the resonators do the work? Should I remove the resonators and let the muffler be the sole source of sound suppression? Replace the muffler alone with a more aggressive one? Another option?
To put things into perspective, I live in a standard suburban Long Island area. My street is like 30 feet wide and our houses are like 20 feet from the curb and 35 feet apart from eachother. When I back my truck into my driveway, there's like 8 feet to the street and 5 feet to my house.

I'd recommend a Carven muffler with resonators. Competitior or progressive.

I'd look at having a custom y-pipe made up, to start.
The stock one is a huge bottleneck for our HEMI's where they smash two 2.5" pipes into one collector.
Look up pics of the stock one and you'll see.

As for the rest of the system. We all have our preferences on sound.
For me personally, I prefer Magnaflow as it's a low and deep rumble, and not raspy and obnoxious.

I went with a 14" Magnaflow this time on my new truck and also removed the resonators, added 5" tips, and the custom fabbed y-pipe as well.

On my previous Ram I had a 21" Magnaflow muffler and the same reso delete and custom y-pipe and a pair of 5" tips.

The sound is much better with the smaller performance muffler; deeper, and at WOT, it's really something nice.
I get compliments all the time on how it sounds.

Did you know that it is against Federal Law to alter your emissions AND/OR your exhaust if it changes the “noise” profile? It appears you wish to make your truck Louder… and that is (according to the Owner’s Manual Warnings) a Federal violation.
You may not worry about such things. Many do not fear prosecution, but you still might wish to be knowlegeable about it. JFYI

+1 for the Carven Competitor for the best bang for your buck and ease of install in my opinion. I've had this direct muffler replacement and their 5" matte black tips on my truck for over 2 years now, and it sounds perfect when cruising around town and when you want to push the pedal to the metal. I had the exhaust for a couple months before getting the tips, and it's a slightly deeper and throatier sound when at idle. I'm not sure about NY's regulations, but since it's a direct replacement, I don't think you'll necessarily run into issues... especially if you're able to keep your stock muffler and swap it for a yearly inspection. I've passed the Texas inspections without any problems.

The aftermarket mfr’s of ghetto-wheels and hi-jack suspensions have lobbied the legislature and managed to get Texas to kill state inspections as of Jan ‘25. (except for municipal emissions and commercial vehicles)

This is not a good thing, IMO, but the inspection process had become little more than a brake-light and tire-tread check anyway. ….

The end of state inspections will remove the liability from inspectors and aftermarket mfr’rs …and place it squarely on the vehicle owner/operators when someone is injured by poorly-engineered alterations.

Pick one or the other, chances are your already ******* off a neighbor or two. One of my neighbors lives a couple houses away and I can hear his truck start up and drive away every time he comes and goes. His is the only truck with a modified exhaust on the block.

My neighbour 2 houses down has a 68 dart

One day I'm getting ready to leave and I told my youngest to get herself ready (she was around 4 at the time)

Unfortunately the neighbors truck isn't a classic, it's a 2021 Ford 150 w/5.0.

Thanks for all the great input. Im thinking I should go with the more aggressive carven or just straight pipe the main muffler only. I might just straight pipe the muffler and keep the resonators, but be prepared to have the Carven on hand if its too much.
I can see from the replies, how diverse this community is when it comes to our opinions on exhaust. I have a feeling Grams isnt going to like my exhaust when its done. Good thing Grams is a few thousand miles away, but I appreciate the input from my fellow hooligans, and Ill try to find a middle ground so my local for my local Grams, so I don't disturb their tea party when I pass by.

As a former (2012 thru 2017 models) Ram 1500 exhaust development engineer, I can tell you that deleting either the muffler or resonator will result in a "drone" noise at certain constant engine RPMs - the muflr & resonator are located where they are to eliminate those drone noises. Think of your exhaust system as a collection of organ pipes of different lengths that are excited by engine firing frequencies.
Whether you can tolerate those noises is up to you, but when they occur, you'll at least know what caused them.

Pull those rear ****/resonators off. That’ll probably give you what you’re looking for

If it were me I would delete the resonators and see how you like it, you will probably get about 20% more volume out of that Flowmaster. If that still were not enough you could try a diffrent muffler or muffler delete, either way though it sounds like those resonators are going to hold you back from the sound you are looking for. Any chance you know how to do a cat delete without throwing a code? I'd really love to put in true dual exhaust.
