So, first off.....Hey, I'm new. I've looked around in the forum and can't quite find what I am looking for so I'll post something new.

I bought a 2014 Ram 1500 Express 5.7 V8. I have some Flowmaster Super 44's. I aim to run true dual exhaust and I'm debating on deleting the resonators.

I've heard the drone when the engine kicks down to 4 cylinders is terrible and sounds awful/not normal. Can anyone confirm? Or better yet - does anyone have a video of this? I've tried to find something on YouTube but I am unable to locate anything.

I want something loud but I am not sure I want to compromise my sanity. Especially, if it's going to sound like ****.

MDS doesn't cause drone, MDS causes lawnmower exhaust note.

Drone is resonance at a certain RPM range caused buy a crap load of things, exhaust timing, exhaust pulses, exhaust design and tuning, location etc. Mufflers can make drone more pronounced.

They sell a resonator kit that bolts on before the muffler, but cab size also plays a roll As it echos the sound.

Drone in my 14 CC is between 1500-1900rpms.

When MDS/ECO kicks in it sounds rough but I wouldn't call it a "drone".
It's normal. If you don't like it, just switch on tow/haul on so MDS doesn't engage.

Mds is mistaken for drone all the time... Hell I call it drone even though it isn't truely drone. If you want something loud that doesn't drone to bad I suggest staying away from flowmasters and I would steer you to a short preforated muffler like a 14 in Magnaflow, jones or mbrp. There are a couple ways to shut mds off and it depends on what transmission you have. For me I have the 6 speed and I can put it in 6th or in tow haul and the mds won't engauge. If you have the 8 speed I think your stuck to a tuner to shut it off. I run a 14ib mbrp and it sound great, I left the factory reaonators on to keep it toned down as I don't like a lot of cabin noise. The best way I have ever herd mds discribed is a Subaru under water and that's spot on.

I have the Corsa cat backs on my 5.7 with 6 speed trans. No drone at all. and the MDS fart noise, I've only noticed a few times. it may be that at lower RPMs, the Corsas might be quieter than other exhausts so I just can't hear the MDS, to people outside the truck, maybe it sounds like crap, I don't know for sure. My guess is that the MDS sounds like crap from outside the truck no matter what exhaust you buy, so buy the one that you think you'll like from inside the truck.

Thanks for the quick response. Here's a picture of my whip.

She's a 6 speed. I just wasn't too sure about the sound. I personally think I am going to delete the resonators. I honestly didn't even know putting my truck in haul mode would prevent my engine from kicking down to 4 cylinders.

It's my first truck..... I got a lot to learn. So, I came here. :favorites13:

Flowmaster super 44s, true duals, deleted resonators. I think it will sound pretty cool, we'll wait and see I guess.

That's right, - if you put 14" or 18" single muffler - between 1500-1900 and with MDS On it will sound terrible and pretty noisy. It's a simple "physic". I went over single 18" Magnaflow, then SW complete exhaust and now running with new dual 18" mufflers instead of really poor (at my opinion, but their LTs - are perfect) 14" dual SW mufflers and glad up to now. The sound is the best from deep pulsating AMG models and real and loud american V8. At the same time there is no drone and less noise up to 2000 inside (outside is pretty loud) but after that - seems like a turboprop bomber seats at your back - deep pulsating bass - awful.

What would you guys recommend?

True duals, Flowmaster Super 44's are guaranteed (already bought them):

Resonators or no resonators? That is the question.

What is the size (body length) of mufflers? If you have 14" without resonators it will be too loud, 18" is OK. But I don’t see any reason to cut the stock end pipes.

I believe they're 13" if I am not mistaken.

44's are loud if your going true duals make sure you put a mid pipe such as a h pipe or x pipe, other wise it will be popie sounding. If it was me I would leave the reaonators try it out for a week then delete them and you'll know what it sounds like both ways.

With the six speed if you put it in 6th on the gear select it will keep mds from kicking on and it will drive normal with tow haul you tend to lose some mpg because it doesn't seem to go into high gear and it holds gears longer.

Item 1 that is a 13 inch case length muffler. 2 resonators do quiet it down a decent amount but retain about the same tone. 3 I hope you can stop them and re order a different size those are 3in inlet and outlet 1 would work as the exhaust is a single 3 in but not two of them you will want 2 1/4 or 2 1/2 depending on your supporting mods.

May be the TS wants to build completely new end pipes, that's why he is asking for the resonators? Still 2 singles with X-pipe are ok, and he can use the reducers 3 to 2.5.
I didn't know the Flow makes 13", this item seems really close to that I have had from SW. Anyway - I had them both in this size, 3" exhaust complete, no resonators - and it was extremely noisy. 13-14" even duals are too small to bump all the gases, they will produce nothing but the noise. A loud one. I'd also mention those mufflers have not perforated system inside, but something kinda grill with a large holes.

You bought the wrong size mufflers for duals. Do you have stock duals or the single exit? Since this is your first truck, all you need to do is a muffler swap. You aren't going to gain much if any going with true duals. You could use one of those mufflers with a y pipe and put it to stock duals.

Return the Mufflers, wrong size and not sure your going to like the tone.Unless you've listened to sound clips... but I find them annoying and a bad design. You should prob go with 2.5" or 2.25" inlets/outlets with a ypipe. Unless your going full headers and then true dual system.

If you go true 3in duals it's going to be extremely loud but your going to lose a ton of low end torque. Your best move is to get a 3in inlet dual 2.25 outlet (if you have the dual exit) and just run that muffler. If you have the single exit you can use the muffler you ordered but just one of them you will be happiest with that setup. That's my advice I have built true dual 2.5 in setups for the hemi's and in stock form they don't like it down low picks up a tad on the top end but you won't see that daily driving.

Yeah, I realized I got the wrong size pipes when they came in. I bought them off ebay.....should have figured as much.

I only paid $150 (shipping included) for the pair so I suppose it's not as bad as it could be.

I was told they could go in with a 3 inch pipe and choke it down to a 2.25"/2.5". Not sure what I want to do now or what my best course of action is. :suicide:

If you have rear dual exit the best plan of action it to get a y pipe go from 3 down to the dual 2.25 and sell the other to a buddy. Or re sell them both and get the right one either will work.
