There are a million threads about exhaust note and drone but my inquiry is not really about those. My intent is to upgrade my 6.4 powered 3500 which tows 12-15000 lbs regularly, and nets 30k+ miles a year. I know with many engines exhaust may open up power higher in the rpm band but typically you loose a little torque down low, well for my truck’s day to day life that would be a problem. My intent is to go to a new muffler w/4” back or dual. I have the max care coverage so I can’t really go true dual or mess with the Y pipe

Really, I wouldn't open it up at all if you want that low end torque to remain on a stock program.

If you add a tune package and replacement PCM to the truck, then opening up the exhaust won't be a problem as the tune can accommodate that and improve low end torque above the stock performance.

Add a Black Widow 300.
Had one on my 16 Ram.

Higher RPMs it’s not that loud inside. It’s louder down low than it is up top. It’s deceptive and the reason I love it.

That’s what I was hoping to not hear but figured I would (better breathing= loss of low end tq)
Black widow is new to me but you have me google-fooing... the step down from 3.5 to 3 wasn’t an issue? Did you ditch the resonator too?

Now I have to see what the hell a j pipe resonator is! The quick pic through muffled doesn’t help-makes it seem like a real cluster f

If you have any pics of your setup or further info I appreciate any further help

I did after awhile. Sound didn’t change much other than I could hear it rumble on the hwy afterward. It was dead silent with the resonators.
