I am on the fence about buying an extended warranty for my '22 Eco. Generally speaking, I don't buy them. 99% of the time it doesn't pay.

This feels like it might be the 1% where it does.

What would you do, and which package do you recommend? I am at 10,000+ miles and will likely burn through the 36K b-t-b in about 18 months.

Kevin, these days I don't worry to much about the mechanicals in new vehicles, Manufacturers seem to have that down to a science. But, all of the electronics give my a bit of worry, and I buy an extended warranty beacuse of that. When my Ram 1500 arrives I plan on buying an 8/85 Max Care Mopar extended warranty.

If you decide you want one check with Zeigler CDJR, or Chysler Warranty Direct. Both are CDJR dealers that sell the genuine Mopar warranty at much better prices than local dealers do. It's EZPZ, and everything is above board. For example, Chryler Warranty Direct is the cheapest now for the 8/85 Mac Care with a $200 deductible for $1495. It may be a bit higher for yours with 10K miles on the odo, but shouldn't be much more. Good luck on your decision.

BTW, good looking Ram you have there.

I agree. I only buy one because of electronics.

I'm at 34,000 and am concerned about loosing basic coverage in a couple more months because of the electronics etc. I just checked with Chrysler Warranty Direct and got quotes for both Maximum Care 8/125 miles and Added Care Plus, 8/125,000. Maxcare will cost me $4168.13 for 24 months of payments and if I pay full the cost drops to $3705. Added care was $2245 with a $200 deductible, Maxcare has $200 deductible as well. I asked the agent what the difference was in a nutshell and he said Maxcare covers around 5000 parts and Added care only covers about 850. The difference being Added care doesn't cover the high end electronics like my Limited is equipped with. For me it boils down to actual cost of $0.04 per mile. I hope I never need it, but I guess it's like purchasing insurance. The only insurance we all know we're going to use some day is life insurance but I think in this case I can afford to spend a few cents more per mile for a little peace of mind.

I have never bought an extended warranty for any vehicle in 50 years. In hundreds of vehicles, never did a motor, transmission, transfer case or other major repair, many ran over 200,000 miles before I sold them. This year I bought a 7 year Bumper to Bumper Mopar extended warranty for the 2020 Grand Cherokee 5.7 Hemi I bought new, because between the lifters and electronics plus air suspension my bet is it is better than 50/50 for it to pay off. One more year on the 2021 2500 with the 6.4 and I will decide if I buy it for that one too.

This is my first new vehicle ever and my 7th truck.

Yes, I bought a 5-year/100,000 extended warranty with no deductible and primarily because of the cost of the electronics.

Both my parents and I have lifetime bumper to bumper mopar warranties. They already recovered their investment when the torque convertor let go in their 2016 2500 with 6.4l. Dealer replaced the entire transmission along with convertor after flushing all the lines. $100 and my dad was on his way. It was not offered on diesel rams, and was discontinued in 2018. But from what I've seen on the mopar warranty, they really stand behind it well.

To close the loop on this, I did call Granger Motors and get an extended warranty. Feel good about the choice. Their price was substantially lower than Mopar Direct.

I had a 2009 Dodge Ram 1500
a week before the Factory Bumper to Bumper expired, i overheard a Service Adviser telling a friend that he would be foolish to let it pass.
I trusted that adviser & i was surprised that the Finance Officer had never mentioned it, at the time of sale.
That plan paid for itself.

I grabbed the extended warranty when i bought my 2016.
I have not used it on this Ram
I did not realize that there were plans that were discounted, so i paid full price

I am sort of worried about this eco-diesels fuel pump
Ram seems to be playing games with the recalls on the pump

I always buy the extended warranty.
As few people posted above. They don't buy, never had a problem.
Then you do. All costs and/or time is on you.
I also do it, because I often don't keep things for long, and purchase new again.
resale value of car/truck with extend warranty has always paid off.

The question of the payback of an extended service contract, like MaxCare, is dependent on how long you own your vehicle past its original factory warranty and the content level of the vehicle. The last three new RAMs I bought, I bought with a MaxCare service contract for the full 8 years, the maximum you can get for a diesel powertrain.

I had to use MaxCare once on my 2015 3500 when the rear air leveling system went out. The repair cost was almost equal to the cost of the MaxCare plan. I still own this truck and it is still under MaxCare coverage.

I also had to use MaxCare on my 2013 when the body control module had to be replaced. That was a $2,400 repair and more than I paid for the service plan. I ran this truck for 9 years.

My 2022 has been issue free and I will be thrilled if it says this way but if it doesn't, I have MaxCare to fall back on.

The other issue is the cost of the MaxCare plan, we all know the wide price range. Buying one online or having your dealer match an online price is the way to do it.

with Ram ending the ecodiesel in 2023 what do you figure parts are going to cost in say 2026 when you still have the vehicle? I would buy the warranty. If it was a hemi I would not buy the extended warranty

Has anyone looked at the Pennzoil platinum/ultra platinum engine warranty? I've been using it since new on my 2020 6.4L and have all of the receipts. Looks tempting...

Thanks!

Purchased the MoPar **** warranty when I got the truck.
Now have 97000 miles and they replaced the engine completely with turbo and HPFP, the starter, the coolant overflow tank, all recalls of course.

$100 per time for 3 times. Original cost was $2700. Was a pretty good deal.

Now that I have a new engine and all with only 1000 miles or less and only 2300 miles left before the MoPar **** runs out, a renewal policy for another 5/75K coverage is $7200. Still trying to decide if it is worth it.

Want to keep the truck, but......????

Depends on the warranty. I paid 3800 and bought a 4 year 80k extended warranty when i bought my 2018 Eco with 50k on it. My engine died last week at 109000 km and i need a whole new engine which will cost between 15000-18000 and the warranty covers 4000. Kind of useless. The thing you want to protect is the engine, and you really aren't protected.

Did you buy Mopar or some aftermarket brand? Know of a person who has a Mopar life time on his Eco diesel it has paid out more in repairs then the truck is worth...
