My fan shroud loosened somehow and it got cut up by the fan blades. No damage to blades but the shroud needs to be replaced. I’m waiting on the part. Question- the Ram Service advisor says it is safe to drive,”just louder”.
Is this good advise? We’re running up quite a bill at our motel waiting on this part. Thnx in advance.

Make sure that the shroud (or whatever is left of it) is well secured so that it doesn't happen again. Depending how bad the damage is, the fan may not be able to pull air through quite as effectively but if you're driving down the highway, the fan really isn't doing much anyway.

Just keep an eye on engine temps if you are sitting still in traffic or towing.

The shroud ( I assume it’s the lower shroud) is completely removed. We will be driving 2500 miles home to Alaska, not towing. At highway speeds we would be safe; ok? How about using the AC?

The AC has its own fan that will kick on, so turning it on will actually help get more air through.

Going down the highway you should be fine, when you pull off and are in the drive through, that's when you may need to keep an eye on it. Not to say it will get hot then, but if you overheat, that's when it will happen. If you're careful you should be able to make it.

If you are nervous about it, you may be able to call ahead to a shop that you will be driving by later that day or the next and see if they can get it added while you take a couple hour break. Might be wishful thinking but possible.

You'll be perfectly fine,my truck hasn't had a shroud ,or the mechanical fan for the last 10 years,it just runs on the A/C fan.

You'll be fine driving. Using the A/C will kick on the secondary fan which will help pull more air through - that will help with your cooling.

You may look at getting a V6 fan and shroud for about $100 and just using that. Look up the V6 fan swap. You remove the mechanical fan and shroud. Add the V6 e-fan to the radiator and you're good to go. I've done it on my truck - along with a 180 thermostat - and it keeps the temps down around 185. Hot days while sitting still it'll start warming up and the fan kicks on, it immediately drops the temps to 185-190. Turning on the a/c will kick the fan on automatically.
