I put this thread in the wrong forum group so am repeating it where it belongs

I call it a fatal flaw as my RAM3500 diesel has only 62k and has developed an oil leak that is originating at the timing plate. Should not happen on this juvenile diesel but it is Near fatal because it involves lifting the cab and engine to get to the area. And of course there is no warranty left for this.

So while I am at it and the engine is exposed, decided to fix some other flaws known to Dodge and Cummins. New solid lifters and a CP3 fuel injection pump.

It is amazing that my 2020 RAM was built in Mexico in January and Dodge/Cummins went from the flawed Bosch CP4 pump back to the tried and true CP3 pump

But of course did not tell anyone> sell more trucks that way. I THINK NOT

They did...

"Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed out on January 1st, 2022. Owners may contact FCA US, LLC Customer Service at 1-800-853-1403. The reference number for the recall is Y78."

You don't have to lift the cab nor the engine to replace the timing cover gasket. It's a 1/2 day job at the dealership at best. Engine and cab stay in place. There are Youtube videos if you want to see it done.

At 62k miles though, I'd talk to Ram (nicely). Sometimes they may help you with warranty since it's that close.

nlambert182 - thank you so much for taking the time to [point out the recall to me. You have saved me thousands of dollars as I now reconfirmed that I had that replacement done in 2021 under the original recall. Excuse me for disparaging Dodge on that one.

But I mis-spoke on the oil leak. It is actually coming off the block under the timing gear cover. The truck is lifted and I saw the place, no way you are going to get to that without lift.

As to warranty, I think 100k is on the emissions and 50k on the rest but I am going to check. My mechanic had called a dealership and they said it was out of warranty, so....

The Cummins truck have a 5 year 100K mile limited power train warranty. Federal law mandates a 80K mile warranty on the emissions but what's exactly covered is up to interpretation by RAM/dealership.

Thanks for that. I am currently on the phone with Dodge and they are claiming that even though the warranty is 100k, I MUST take it to a dealer for the repair. I think that is not correct and can find nothing that says that in the warranty info. Now they tell me it is deepen the "procedures" manual from Stellanis.
So there it goes.

They want me to button it up and take it to a dealer, but I cannot do that as he had to lift it to find the leak site.

For repairs covered under the original factory warranty you need to have the repair performed by an authorized Mopar dealership service department. It it was a 3rd party extended warranty you don't have that limitation.

You HAVE to take it in for warranty work. They're not going to allow you to fix it in your garage and send them a bill. I agree that now it looks like you're going to have to eat it.

The emissions warranty was reduced in 2017 down to 5/60k miles.

Page 6 of your warranty paperwork.

Again I thank all that have helped me with this problem in the Forum. Live and learn, although at 80, you'd think I had :(

lambert182 saved me a ton of money by pointing out the recall that I forgot. And sending the document that I could not find about warranty repairs.

Yes, I will eat it and get it done by my mechanic. In talking with another Dodge dealer service manager, it was not crystal clear that this leak would have been covered under warranty, even though it originates on the block. I would have had to agree to a $295 diagnosis before teardown.
