Fatal flaws

I call it a fatal flaw as my RAM3500 diesel has only 62k and has developed an oil leak that is originating at the timing plate. Should not happen on this juvenile diesel but it is Near fatal because it involves lifting the cab and engine to get to the area. And of course there is no warranty left for this.

So while I am at it and the engine is exposed, decided to fix some other flaws known to Dodge and Cummins. New solid lifters and a CP3 fuel injection pump.

It is amazing that my 2020 RAM was built in Mexico in January and Dodge/Cummins went from the flawed Bosch CP4 pump back to the tried and true CP3 pump

But of course did not tell anyone> sell more trucks that way. I THINK NOT

I think putting a v6 in anything larger than a sedan is a fatal flaw

this is a once venerable straight 6 diesel that can haul like a trooper when it is right

I agree with that sentiment, but that cummins is literally used in busses and other heavy duty equipment, I think it'll survive the horrors of a little scooter like the Ram

Sure, if we're talking Cummins, but I thought we were in the "v6 performance" part of the forum

Don't know which of your posts will stay and which gets the can, so I'll respond to both.

They did...

"Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed out on January 1st, 2022. Owners may contact FCA US, LLC Customer Service at 1-800-853-1403. The reference number for the recall is Y78."

You don't have to lift the cab nor the engine to replace the timing cover gasket. It's a 1/2 day job at the dealership at best. Engine and cab stay in place. There are Youtube videos if you want to see it done.

At 62k miles though, I'd talk to Ram (nicely). Sometimes they may help you with warranty since it's that close.

The engine warranty on a Cummins is 5 years or 100,000 miles, the warranty starts the day you buy it.....

If your dates and mileage is accurate you still have power train warranty. Might as well use it.
