I did not see this mentioned so sorry if this is a repost. April 11th edition of Automotive News reveals that for the first time in over a century Chrysler sold more light trucks than either FORD or GM. Sales were FCA were 178,407 up 23%, Ford 177,514 and GM 177,458.

Discount deep enough, you eventually will out sell the competition. Seriously though, if RAM's on average were not so deeply discounted, they would not be pulling those numbers.

Yesterday's Wall Street Journal said FOrd lead the way in March with discounts. In fact 40% of FOrd sales were fleet sales to rental car companies and large buyers with very low profit margins.

Hmm... wonder if thats why my dealer was so eager to get my truck delivered by March 30... must have been some significant FCA incentives to bust that number of sales as I got a pretty good deal, near 30% off MSRP.

Which suggests that both Ferd and Chebby are way overpriced. Certainly the quality isn't there to support the price for GM crap.

All the big truck makes are over priced. Just that Ford and Chevy do not have to discount as much to move them on average and maintain a higher per unit profit than RAM.

The flip side is that RAM take a more huge hit for depreciation because of the deep discounting up front when new.

I like my RAM but let's face it, RAM or the old Dodge truck branding has always played third fiddle for many years to Ford and Chevy in terms of sales numbers with a larger portion of buyers who settle only on the RAM brand because it was the best deal, not that they actually wanted a RAM out the gate.

Ya but if Ford and Chevy did the discounts they would finally be selling their trucks at what they are worth. 40k for a base model F150 is insane.

Are these numbers for worldwide sales? It is just mind boggling to think 500k+ trucks would be sold just in America in one month.

The more new trucks they sell the less our currently owned trucks are worth, or does that mean demand is greater?

Either way, GM and especially Ford are over priced for what you get. My brother owns a GMC and the other brother an F150. I receive compliments a lot on my truck but to most people a GM or Ford is just another truck.

I get what you are saying but a F150 base model 2WD regular cab stripped model comes in at $26K and change list. But yeah, than can get to they can get pricey quick for other models and configurations.

That's why so many are upside down with the credit on their trucks. Not everybody can handle out a deal. That's why I buy used, and eliminate the first 1-2 years of massive depreciation. I investigated and also my bank lady had the paperwork, showing, the sticker price was $43k, the sales price $36k and I paid after 1 1/2 years on the road $26k. I saved $10k basically. An amount, nobody would have paid off in 1 1/2 years.
It's everybody's personal decision. I'm fine with it, how I did it. But also- if I would have the money, I probably would buy me a new one.

Because I get discounts at Ford, Chrysler and GM, I shopped around and I really like the manager from Ford- even though with a real good deal- the Truck I needed (not even close to what I wanted) was already 34K after all discounts and savings. ant it was a plane F150 5.0 extended cab (not even full 4 door), 4x4, tow package. nothing special. The same as Chevy 36K with the 5.3 engine, also just extended cab and 4x4. the RAM would had been new how I wanted it, QC SLT 4x4 and Tow Package 31K. I am now lucky and happy that I have the Crew Cab with the 6.4' bed instead of Quad Cab.
And if you think, that you can add there another 2-3K for tag, taxes and fees- well- you're in regions where normal people already feel uncomfortable.
here in the south you get already a singlewide for the price of a truck. Just to show how expensive they can get. And if I have to spend almost half of what I pay for a house, that's scary. And because a lot of people don't think about that, that's why the market is full with good, cheap repo vehicles sold at the auctions, which decreases the value additionally to the discount prices.

but nevertheless- if you bought one- there is one golden rule: don't check prices after you bought- you will always find a better deal afterwards... :happy107:
