I got some new pocket style fender flares they came with double sided tape already installed. Question is do I need/should I install some of the rubber trim around the edges that are going to touch the body? Will this help with some of the rubbing issues I've heard of?

Trust me on this one, use 3m door edge protector tape film sold on ebay for about 14 dollars. There is much discussions on this on the cummins forums. I read and found out about them while Google searching. After a while even the rubber gasket takes off the paint due to dirt and sand and vibration. Only fix was no fender flares or 3m film.

Any idea how wide the strip should be? And will the tape still adhere to this film well?

The strip is applied on the body. The area of contact won't be that much I dont believe. Mines like .1inch so small. But I plan on applying the actual width of the tape all around.I definitely won't be going lightly over it with an exacto knife after the fender flares are re installed.
