Finally figured out to disable the slam with the door open in my 2023 Ram 1500.This is the only complaint with it I have. This was putting it in reverse and I thought I caused an accident.Talked a co worker that has a 2021 Ram 1500 and he said put my seat belt on.I did not believe him at first and he was right.Shown me this video how to do it,

This is a frequently discussed topic, many people will suggest either the seatbelt or a seatbelt extension.
The other talking point that comes up is learn how to back up using the mirrors properly. There's no good argument for needing to open the door while actively backing up. Truthfully I could care less if the person gets injured when backing up with the door open, I just don't want to see an innocent truck damaged.

The seat belt extension works great. I don’t use it for backing up. I endanger my poor truck even more as I pull into a garage that has three inches of garage door closing clearance due to a concrete filled steel tube that prevents a vehicle from running into my hot water heater. I have to open the door and hang out the truck to see that thing before contact with the bumper. Call me Evil Knevil but it works.

Not a big fan of this auto park feature and this is a great example. Especially if you do not have the tow mirrors. All these forced safety features are getting silly.

Strap a pool noodle on the front of that concrete post for indication that your right on top of the post.
Another way if you have the 8.4 radio is turn on the back up camera manually and watch for the garage door clearance. Any '16 or newer truck should have this option.

Pool noodle is genius! Thanks I’ll try that as it adds some cushion just in case.

My Dads farm has a set of 4X12's dug into the side of a hill, that were there when he bought the farm in the 60's,and they're still used for doing oil changes, and i dare you to back onto them with-out opening the door,it's about a 7 foot drop off them if you back up and miss the ramps or back over the end stops, lol. Camera doesn't really help other then lining you up on them, but once you're on them, the camera and mirrors are no longer usable.

I have less that 6" total ref front end and rear end room to put in garage for MY 19 CC Bighorn. Camera gets a Serious workout ref rear of truck.

Without the plow i got tons of room

With the plow, bot so much

So i backed into the garage where i liked to be and then grabbed on old target from my range bag and taped it to my work bench

With a sharpie i painted two horizontal lines on it
Now when i back up, i aim for the bulleseye to get my windage right, and when i can no longer see the horizontal lines, i know im far enough back, i can close the door

If you pull in forward, i like the old "tennisball suspended from the ceiling" trick

You simply hand it down to it barely touches the windshield maybe an inch before you are where you want to be, and look for movement

Ball hits the windshield, and you know your good

For the tight parking spaces we have, I use rubber floor stops. Drive the car to the point youy want it, set the parking stop tight against the tire, painless. Does it creep? Maybe, a very small amount. But I have never had to move it over thge course of a season. Ant it can be anchored, if you want. I never have.

Challenge Accepted!!
If you weren't so far away I'd swing by but your buying the beer! LOL! Part of my driveway is only 8.5' wide with a brick wall down one side, with the mirrors that doesn't leave much room to keep it on the cement. Just need to drop the mirrors to see where the rubber meets the ground, easier to back on those ramps then driving onto them.

If i'm at the farm alot of times i'll be doing diff sevices etc.,and then you're backing onto them. Plus not everything has dual mirrors, the majority of things there still have manual mirrors,so adjusting them is out of the question,it's easier to open a door when you start backing onto them.

have you never tried to back a small trailer or with a high load in the back of the truck? or hitch a trailer without a working camera by yourself? There are many times, if you tow on the regular that you may want or need to poke your head out or even gauge distance covered using your foot or running board against the ground as reference. I also have an unlit driveway and gate. At night the reflection of the back-up lights completely glare out the mirrors making them useless. Also when backing, if someone pulls up on the street with their lights on it also blinds the mirror. Bad lighting or sun glare, or children or pets not visible can occasionally necessitate having eyes outside the cab. I am not condoning hanging out the door by one arm, but there are definitely times a slightly open door just makes things easier.

Hang a tennis ball from the ceiling where it will touch your windshield when you are far enough in to close the door.

You could also “2 foot it” with driver door open and back up slow. If you have one on the brake (very light) and back up the auto park does not engage. At least not on my 21 Rebel or 23 Sport.

Wow. I don't even have to put my foot on the brake pedal on my 2001 to shift out of Park into Reverse while my door is open and I'm revving the gas to get out of my garage as fast as humanly possible. I'm pretty sure that's not normal, but I'm okay with that. :burnout:
