What grit should I use? 200, 250, 300?

The original goal was to remove enough material to smooth it out...and that mostly worked, but it made those waves you see.When in doubt start with a higher number (300), if it isn't cutting as much as you want go lower (150). Being that it is aluminum, harsh sand paper will likely do more harm than good (plus aluminum tends to cake sandpaper up). I would probably use 300, maybe even 400 to start. Keep in mind your just trying to clean the surface, not remove material. (That is your goal right?)![]()
i would probably use a rotary file to clean off a bit more material
