Just purchased our first Ram truck. Have always owned crewcab Tundras but with the problems with their new 32K motor blowing up that was out of the question. Looked at GMC with the baby diesel but never owned one and fuel is more expensive that gas plus regular maintenance is a bit more also.
Ended up with the 25 Ram LoneStar with the Night and BigHorn packages 4x4 CrewCab. This truck puts the Tundra to shame in every possible way!! The ride is amazing and it is quiet inside and out, it also comes standard with way way more useable STUFF!!. In this first week I have had the bedliner sprayed, side steps installed, and Katzkin leather put in to match the Ram stitching. On order is the bedstep and the threshold protectors are on the FedEx truck to be delivered this morning. That is all that this truck needs the rest is already on the vehicle. It’s an amazing truck and soooo glad we bought it. My wife loves the truck too, she says it’s way better than the Tundra!!!!

At least that's the case for the '25 model year. Hopefully they start offering the HO on the lower trims in future model years.

Yup the SST (Straight Six Turbo) and yes it is the SO. The HO correct as posted already. So help me out I’m in my sixties so I have no clue what is the mil/cels at 3000 miles? The motor is proven already for a couple years it’s just the first year for the trucks to have this. So far so good it is to dang quiet if anything and you push the gas and it goes, I by no means floored it but pushed on the pedal doing 40 or so and this truck will scoot right along!! Thank you 327 miles, I do not drive much and like the room when I do plus the wife and I take a long drive once in awhile and see the sites.

I just need the mil and cels,,,, I’m old not brain dead yet? I already thought I had the maintenance show up but it disappeared in the Ram app and I have not been able to find it again and nothing came up on the truck. I’ll look at this and read it. Thanks

As a fellow senior citizen, I am going to go out on a limb and say that you have chosen wisely. Your Ram is a huge upgrade from your Toyota. Congratulations. Enjoy it.

Yup yup and the fan boys are fanatical over there. I have had a CrewMax since 2010 but the ride and the plastics everywhere and of course that motor they switched too it was a no brainer. Ram has redone these and this motor is great (from what I have read and talking to folks) all of the things this truck comes with is amazing it is night and day difference than the Tundras. Now my daughter is jealous and she wants to trade hers in. The underneath of this truck has everything, it is already there! We are glad we/ I did not go back to Toyota, I am very comfortable driving this truck for what little miles I have on it. I do not drive much but I do like to be comfortable and have plenty of room when I do.
Arthritic fingers and this dang spell check all have their own mind so there will be mistakes but I will fix them directly.

I looked at a couple trucks up from this model but they were missing something. They all had the same motor and everything else except stereo and screen. I wanted painted no chrome, so it led to this plus it has the big screen and the better stereo! Besides being comfortable when we travel I like to have my music and if I want it loud it had to have the capacity to do so, this Alpine sounds good and is plenty loud so I won’t have to get a stereo. The next level up they get proud very quickly with the price. We got a good deal and they thru in the leather, I bought the side steps and I know a bed liner business, and the bedstep is easy peasy, I also just received my package that has my sill protectors in it, and doing all this we saved a bundle and it’s just the way we like it. I did look at one all decked out but I did not want to spend that type of money.

MIL (Malfunction Indicator Light) and CEL (Check Engine Light) are the same thing. The codes you referred to are actually called OBD codes, or just codes.

I am thinking the base Hurricane will be a great choice, maybe even
more performance than the 5.7 Hemi. So, I do not think everyone
wants the High Output. I know I wouldn't. The Laramie trim option is as high as I would go. I like it.
Companies often limit the larger engines to the uber priced models.
Just look at GM with the 5.3 or the 6.2. The rule applies there.

Spend at least $75K for the privilege to own the HO, rubbish I say.
Your money, do what you want.

Right now Stellantis and Ram have a lot of work to do to get the
ship uprighted.

Speaking of Tundras, a co-worker of mine just got a recall notice last week to bring his truck in.....for a new engine. He's got 40K on the truck so he's thrilled. I guess that could be looked at a couple of different ways. At least Toyota recognized a problem and is doing something about it.

The only Toyota I ever owned was my first vehicle. A 1971 FJ40 Land Cruiser. Great for crawling up the side of a mountain. Horrible as a daily driver in the city!

My point is that I would like the option to upgrade to the HO, not that you’d be forced to get it. Ram used to offer the 5.7 Hemi engine on all trim levels. It was an option. Some people are happy with the V6 Pentastar engine. Other’s want more power. It would be nice to have the option to upgrade without needing to step up to a Limited or higher trim level to get that.

This motor has been out for a couple years now. It is only the first year for the Ram pickup. As of a couple days ago Toyota still has not done a recall, the only notice out is from the NTSA or B That is why everyone is a bit upset. The ones that have had blowin motors some have received short block some long and they have been using the same parts again like turbos and other part including heads. I know of one person is on his third engine. They are including the 22,23,and now there have been confirmed reports of even 24s. Toyota I think???? has come out now and said complete new motors will be replaced. This is what I have heard but have not confirmed. If you want to read 1000s of posts one can wander over to the tundra forum and spend a day or two over there. Toyota is supposed to let people know what is going on the end of this month. I had been a loyal Tundra owner for years and have read just about all I care to and have seen a handful of trusted videos all about this problem. The motor count now is that it’s supposed to be in the neighborhood of over 100,000 trucks and Sequoias that are or might be affected. I am over anything Toyota at this point I had a good motor the 5.7 but I sold it last year.

Do they recommend regular fuel for the SO? Thinking they do which is an advantage over the HO for many. Plus a lot of folks don’t like the 3.92 rear and lower mileage figures that would accompany the HO.

Both good points, if you have to have 3.92 gears with the HO then
that is not good at all. 0-60 times are not important unless you are a
kid or boy racer............Daddy paying for the gas.
If you want it for a work truck or pulling that is another equation.
