I have never done any mods. I just bought a new '13 ram 1500 last september and I'm ready to do some mods. First I'm thinking about ordering a new exhaust. do i need a catback or just a muffler? anywho, I like magnaflow and borla but have never heard it in person on anything but my friends cars. I seen youtube videos but they dont do much justice. then a guy i know tells me go with flowmaster. now im confused.

Im looking for a nice deep rumble. Not throaty, or spitty like a motorcycle. I want a deep aggressive rumble sound though. When I look at different catback systems online there is only like 1 or 2 kinds for my ram. When you look at cars borla makes like 3 to 4 different names for the exhaust system. for my ram i only see a part number and it doesnt explain in detail what it actually does as for sound. Check it out on jegs or moesperformance or marylandspeed or any site. i only get a part number no real descriptions! help me out please.

I like my flowmasters they've got a good rumble to them but it depends on how loud you want it. MagnaFlow and borla are both good also.

why did you go with flowmasters over the other brands?

Check this out; plum full of vids and sound clips of different exhaust setups.

I chose Magnaflow because I like the sound. You do whats right for you. Make sure you investigate the difference between straight through designs like Magnaflow and chambered like Flowmaster; it makes a difference.
Our trucks have 2.25" stainless exhaust tubing, so a muffler is about as big of a change as you can make unless you also want bigger tips, too.
Mufflex makes bolt-on Magaflow mfflers; any "universal" muffler will be significantly shorter than the stock unit and will require welding and some extra pipe.

I just like the sound they have. I used to have the 50 series and now I currently have the super 44. I also deleted the resonators on mine. Not sure on the exhaust size on yours but audio1der is correct on needing extra pipe no matter which aftermarket muffler you go with. Does your truck have factory duals or just single exhaust?

So all I need is a muffler? will that still boost HP? I have a crewcab with factory duals. nothing has been done to them at all yet. so whatever the stock size should be is what i have currently. so yall both just added a muffler or did yall both get the whole catback system done?

I have an 06 which had a single exhaust I had the shop put duals on mine. You already have duals so I'd just get the muffler.

Yes all you need is a muffler if that is all you want to change. Since you have the duals, you just need a single in/dual out muffler. Size needed is a 3" in/2.25" or 2.5" dual out. Factory duals are 2.25" after the muffler, but not all mufflers come with that size. So 2.5" is your best choice.

If performance is what your looking for, I wouldn't look at Flowmaster. They sound good but flow poorly unless you run their single chambers. My buddy runs the single chambers on his Ram, converted it to true duals just like I did. His seems to be louder than mine is with Dynomax bullets.

IMO, the cat back is a better option. You get better quality, mandrel bends & increase the size to 2.5" out the back. Sets you right up for longtubes and even a supercharger if you decide to go that far. If your on a budget & can't wait to save up then a simple muffler swap is the way to go.

I went with a Flowmaster Super 40 just because it was the only muffler stocked in town and I wanted to do the swap right away while I was home for the weekend. Left everything else stock out the factory duals through the resonators.... but I think they are going to be deleted soon. It has a nice rumble. Enough to get people's attention! I think I had $100 into the entire project.

It'll sound a lot better once you get rid of the resonators.

I had a 14" magnaflow in my 2011. It didn't give the sound that I wanted. It had a nice rumble and was decently loud when WOT but it didn't have the aggressive throaty sound I was looking for. I bought a flowmaster 10 series and I like it. Sounds throaty and turns heads! I have also found that it doesn't drone near as loud as my magnaflow did. The drone wasn't an issue really until I was doing 110 km/h though, regular roads were fine!

I disabled my mds and I haven't had any issues with any flowmaster that I've had on.
