Foam under intake manifold

IWhat is the foam under the intake manifold for and is there any harm in leaving it out? I had to have some work done on the drivers side head and now that I am putting everything back together, I am curious as to the necessity of the foam between the manifold and lifter valley.

I’m going to assume sound absorption. Possibly minor heat shielding as well but doubtful

No one makes a top mount for your application lol...4th gens were the lucky ***** who got anything besides centrifugal lol

Edit: unless you converted your accessory drive to an 05-08 LX setup. Then you have options.
