If you don't have a tuner about anyone you find is going to charge that much I think hemifever only charges 200 for a custom tune

^^^ This.

If you don't have a tuner than you'll need to purchase one AND a tune to get the custom tune. This will cost about $300-500 just for the tuner and then another $150-200 for the tune. HemiFever is pretty fairly priced and if you already have the tuner than just order the tune from him as I do't believe you'll find a better price.

I got a brand new dcx I1000 fs for 350 obo shipped. It doesn't have hf. So you'll have to get that but that's another 125 you can purchase later. So a little cheaper I'd assume

There are several tuners available for the hemi, you just need to ask. I use Josh @HHP, bot others are Johan but I think he only does stuff for Arrington now, Mike @OST does amazing work as well. Sean has a nice setup with Moe's and Bully's where he provides a tune with the purchase of the programmer which you won't get with any other tuner.

If you're just looking to do bolt-ons or mild modification then the deal with Sean is a great one; if you're going to go much more in depth on a build then I highly recommend you deal directly with one of the well known hemi builders and tuners so you can deal with one group to handle the complete package unless you know where to look for individual needs.

^^you sir got VERY lucky then. Steve has had MANY lawsuits against him for destroying engines both here and in Australia. Just Google "Dynosteve lawsuit" and you'll have a good LONG read. It's bad enough that an unrelated motorcycle tuner named Dyno Steve has taken a lot of heat over it.

How do these tuners work?

Do you have to 'initiate' the tune every time you start the truck?

Are there different levels of tuning available when needed? IE valet mode.

Can the physical tuner be mounted out of sight? Nothing says "steal me" quite like mounting electronics on the b pillar.

If you order the DiabloSport Trinity from Moes Performance, the HF tune comes with it. So you don't have to pay extra for the custom tune. If you order the Diablo Intune from Moes, I think the HF tune is $50. I can't tell you anything else about other custom tunes. I've heard some people like the White Lightning tune, but it doesn't come with a transmission tune like the HF tune does. I love my HF tune. The truck feels so much better and smoother than stock. Also, the tune lasts for as long as you hve the truck. So any time you add a new bolt on mod, send Sean an email and he'll tweak your tune to incorporate the new mod at no extra charge. The only thing you'll get charged for in terms of mods would be heads/cam and boost.

The tuners write over the stock tune of your truck to get more power out of your truck. Don't worry, they save a copy of the "stock tune" in the tuner so you can go back to it if needed. Unless you change the tune back to stock, the last tune you write to it will remain in the vehicle. So there's no need to reload the tune. Also, I know with the Trinity you don't have to keep the tuner hooked up to the truck. Once the tune is written, it's in there. So you can take the tuner out if you prefer. There are multiple tunes in each tuner. The tunes that come preloaded are refered to as canned tunes. I've heard people prefer the BullyDog canned tunes, but when it comes to custom tunes they like the HF tune.

Quick correction my friend. White Lightning tune is engine AND tranny tune. Or one or the other. A couple guys on here run HF engine tune, and WL tranny tune. I love my HF tune, but I am thinking of trying WLs tranny tune, paared with HF tune. It's $100 for the tranny tune

Thanks David. For some reason I thought it was the other way around. I thought HF has the engine and tranny tune while WL was just engine.

HF CAN do tranny tunes but WL is supposed to be better at it. I'd be weary though as I heard a couple guys started having tranny problems after getting their WL tunes. This was on another forum though and it wasn't like it was everyone who got one. There are plenty of WL customers who are happy with their tunes as well.

No prob. Not trying to be RF police, but I have been communicating with WL lately, and want to share that info. :)

I have heard the same thing ^^^
My desire to try the WL tune is more experimental. I am very, very happy with HF tune.
With current mods and HF tune, I roast the tires all the way through first gear and into second.
If I hook up in first, I get a massive screech into second gear.
I am having to relearn how I launch!
Plus, I am getting a 2/4 drop and new tires, just to help get the power to the ground.
HF is awesome, especially when you have mods, it gets the most out of them!

Looking at your avatar. Are you in Baton Rouge?

This is my friend and neighbor and one of the best tuners in Louisiana

I will be doing my truck soon.

Let me know how it goes. I'll be doing a TC and a stage 3 VB this spring and was contemplating a trans tune to see if I can get the most out of my truck. Not sure if I'll go with the tune or not but I will definitely be doing the TC and VB lol
