Hi all,

I'm from Switzerland, Geneva and I just bought a RAM 1500 5.7 crew cab from 2006 with only 28'000 miles (46'000km).

I'm 30yo and It's my first American car. My father is a huge American car enthusiast and I grew up in Pontiac GTO, Ram 2500 6.7, Escalade, Avalanche with the 8.1 etc. etc.

I registered because I have few questions and as we are less used to American trucks here, you will be great help.

THANKS!

Hi guys !!

Hope you are doing well.

I just bought a 2006 Ram 1500 SLT crew cab with 5.7 Hemi with 28k miles here in Switzerland.

My project is to make a soft upgrade of the truck and I would like your opinions and advices.

I plan to order :

- K&N air filter DRYFLOW, ALUMINUM TUBE https://www.knfilters.com/71-1533-performance-air-intake-system
- Magnaflow exhaust https://www.magnaflow.com/products/...et-series-cat-back-performance-exhaust-system
- Bilstein B8 5100 front and rear shocks with a 1inch front lift (don't like when the front looks lower)
- double din radio.
- Trail Terrain tires (don't know which ones yet, maybe de BFG Trail Terrain) what is the biggest tire that we can put with no lift?
- Led bar from Lazer Lamp https://www.lazerlamps.com/fr/catalog/product/view/id/985/category/21/

The truck has few problems:

- there is a oil leak on the rear diff. I just order the rear pinion seal and I will do the rear diff oil change with mopar 75w140.
- engin light and break light+ABS turned on and off few times -> P0158 / P0573 / P0138 / P1521
- the RPM indicator is sometime bugs and the engine idling seems to be very low (around 500rpm)
- the right dash speaker crackles. Do you know if I can order OEM infinity speaker or I should change both dash speakers? what speakers do you suggest?
- the truck s"*ks gas as F*"% !!!!! and 200$ for a full tank :ehcapt: hahaha

thank you for your feed back !!

Erwin

JMHO save your money & for get buying that $350 K&N cold air intake (aka CAI) it will not improve a darn thing including fuel mileage.
Ditto CAI worthless stay stock. Rest looks good and U got some codes to work through.

U got an early 5.7L motor they were not known for fuel management. Bigger tires and lift not gonna help U in the fuel management division. Skinny pedal management help stay off the floor with the pedal. Neva been to Switzerland so not know if U hit any unlimited speed roads. Only did 10 years in Germany and paid a lot of $$$ to feed my 74 European spec Mercedes. Try to stay modest on the tires and lift IMHO.

What does a liter of gas run? It was 1.98 marks when I left GE.

And FWIW, the early Hemi’s if U get 15 mpg on the highway be happy. U cannot complain about gas mileage if U bought an early Hemi lol. Definitely get the rear end fixed before U fly down the highway.

Welcome to the forum and good luck on yer Mods.

Thanks for your replies guys!

Really? the K&N CAI are useless??

regarding the lift, I just want to replace my old shocks with Bilstein 5100 and only lift the front by 1" in order to have a flat truck and not the rear higher than the front...

Yea I know that we should not complain of fuel consumption with those Hemi... I'm between 14 and 16 mpg.

here in Switzerland the gas price is around USD 2.20 per liter (around USD 8.3 per gallon). what is the price in the US ?

I've got the 5100's all around with the fronts set to 2.1" raised so it is pretty levelled out, but still has some forward rake, too.

Yes, forget the CAI; waste of cash!

I currently run LT295/65R20 tires (equivalent to 35's) on my 20x9 stock rims and have zero rub at full turn.

I have this radio. It's not too deep, so installation is easier.

"In free America" :laughing1:

I like the sound of your ram.

just received my new Bilstein 5100 shocks today!!! and oil change set and rear diff oil change set.

What would be your advices in order to have a "flat truck". Because, as you can see, the front of the truck seems to be lower as the rear.
So what would be the good level of lift on the front shocks?
