Has anyone with a chrome bumper deleted their front license plate holder? How did you do it? How difficult was it?

I want to remove mine, and install a curved RGB lightbar, mounted where the optional towhooks would be.

Mine came with the kit, added to put plate on, but I believe it just has plastic pins to hold it.

If its just the plastic housing, try to pull straight off.

I'll give it a good tug later on. If I am able to remove it, I'll be ordering and installing a lightbar down there soon.

Yup, you may be able to crawl underneath, see plastic Christmas tree pins.

CA is a 2 plate state as well, but with my previous 2000 Ford 150 I drove it 18 years without a front plate, never was stopped. Reason was a month after buying it 2 people backed into me in a week period. Second one broke the plate holder, and I just left it off. Do have a front plate on the Ram though.

How are you going to mount the light bar between the tow hook areas? It’s solid metal between them... unless you cut out the 25” or so of metal... but that would be crazy and invite rust and chrome chipping off. Mounting a light bar across the holes is an option but the bar sticks too far off the bumper and looks outa place.

I wanna see what you do tho. I have the same style of bumper and I have rigid SRQ pros in the tow hook block off plates and I just added a 31” curved single tow roughy country under the bumper.

It sucks, I drilled the holes in my bumper to install the plate holder, state of Ohio passes a law a few months later that they are no longer requiring the front plate as of July 1, 2020. I would have just left it off. Guess I’m gonna weld the holes shut and repaint lol

I'm going to go the route of a small, slightly curved lightbar.
I took inspiration from a 2500 that I saw online somewhere who did a really clean install on his. I'll try just using mounting brackets first, extenders if necessary.

I just pulled mine off after removing the screws. Plastic inserts in the bumper come out easily. Read somewhere you need 5/16" plugs to seal the holes but havent procured any yet9d35d5fd8810a90ceb92ce97099507f3.jpg

it's usually held in by 2 10mm screws that can just be removed with a ratchet and socket. There might be 2 or 4 plastic plugs in the bumper itself to allow the screws to hold onto the bumper but you can just pry them out with a little work. It's a 5-10 minute process and super easy to do.

I bet someone could find chrome plugs at Autozone, or somewhere. May hide them completely.
